You know, I though about this and do you realize that if the Mac team had to do with as many active users as we have, we would be leaving them in a cloud of dust? Nice thought. yeah, that doesn't surprise me. my total computer power adds up to about 18Ghz, and i'm ranked third or fourth in producti...

Hopefully their influx of new folders will, change their whiney crybaby demeanor that they have demonstrated when we passed them in the past. lol, now that's not very nice. i'm sure our teams will be passing eachother by a few more times in the coming months. as long as we keep climbing the ranks, ...

hmm, good question. not sure they ever actually gave out exact numbers for the G5's, but i know they were supposed to be cheaper than the G4's. motorolla however, had a bad habit of only selling chips in batches of 10,000. the top notch g4's were sold for the mid $400's, the g5's are cheaper, but i ...

well, per price you have to be willing to build your own machine. you can really make great folding to cost ratios when you build the caseless PSU/MB/ style setups, but those aren't really computers. for retail bang for the buck, i'm guessing the dual G5 is top notch. although ask again in a few mon...

certainly it's uncalled for. if ARM throws up a pile of points to help their team reach the EOC overtake before we do, it's FINE. that just means more research getting done. if we get some ribbing for not passing EOC first, it's all in good fun. sometimes it can be hard to be competitive and still r...

lol, people are deleting large proteins when they get them? two questions: 1. how do you find the time to figure out what each machine is folding, then delete them as they come in? 2. aren't these actually worth a pretty decent ppd total? it's just that they take a long time to finish? (or are these...

OK, I'll bite. How long for a G5 to "chew through" one of these 160 point proteins? Less than 34 hours? now now, we already have ease of use, UI, industrial design, and security on you poor guys. last thing i want to do is tell you how bloody fast they are and take away price/performance to boot. :...

i have my dual G5 folding 24/7, and the fans have never kicked on above their lowest settings. i can't hear my machine, but i also have 7 external drive cases with small fans in them that make more noise than the machine. i'm sure i could hear it if the room were silent, but it's a low pitch on the ...

the powerbook is a little smaller, but the iBook is a much better deal. especially if you're just going to try out the Mac platform, i wouldn't want to drop the extra few hundred bucks to get the powerbook. (unless you need the DVD burner). the iBook is plenty fast for a laptop, very durable, and ha...

Therefore a virus would be stumped right then and there, not knowing your password, it cannot do any harm. I wonder why no one brought this up? well, for a virus to spread it requires user intervention. users are stupid enough to get a program/file from someone, open it and actually enter their pas...

PCs are for the people who know what they're doing. For everyone else, there's Macintosh. if that were true i think we'd see the marketshare numbers reversed. i do IT work for one of the Big Ten universities. there are over 300 people in my department. i use both platforms all the time, and the spl...

what can a Mac do that a PC can't. a few that come to mind are: 1. e-mail without worry about viruses. 2. connect a new mac to the internet without getting a worm. 3. no spyware 4. in the near future, no worrys about "trusted" computing 5. RIAA won't sue you if you're on a Mac, because they're stupi...
