Question about Seagate 7200.12 idle noise
Is the noise in the larger models as bad as the 500gb one reviewed here? I ask because I figure the larger models would use a bigger case which might prevent that horrible hollow noise I heard in the sample file. I've also been looking at the LP model of Seagate but the reviews on Newegg aren't that...

I was wondering if anyone knew what manufacturing process Intel's southbridges used? I found out the P4x series northbridges are 65nm and I think AMD uses 55nm for all their current chipsets but I can't find any info on Intel's southbridges. I just can't figure out why the newer ICH10 southbridges a...

Do Intel chipsets run hot?
I've been looking at some Intel motherboards and I've noticed some complaints about the chipsets running hot. This is on low end boards P31/ICH7 and higher end boards like the GA-EP45-UD3R. What was especially surprising was complaints about the southbridge. This is particullary worrisome because th...

I've had other things on my mind and I completely forgot about this thread. Anyway... 2.4GHz – 66.5 / 102W I'm curious why you were testing at 2.4ghz. Also, I wonder how much power the chipset was taking. AMD has their memory controller built into the cpu so I'm sure Intel's chipset probably takes...

By contrast, I prefer AMD to Intel due to 3rd party software's existence such as K10stat. I agree that having options like K10stat are good but requiring them because AMD is too lazy to update their cpu driver is bad. I guess I'm just worried K10stat will be buggy or conflict with something and the...

Though a bit off topic, you should take motherboard's power consumption into consideration. I've recently assembled two systems that experienced 10W under load in Intel's favor and 5W at idle in AMD's favor under similar situation. CPU: Intel 5300, AMD X2 245 MB: Gigabyte P43, MSI 770 VGA: HIS 4850...

Athlon II 240 vs. Intel E6300
They both run at 2.8ghz and they both say they run at 65w, which I suspect is more that they actually use. So, my question is, which is the cooler running cpu?

nightmorph: I've seen your post before and it originally gave me the idea for passive cooling but after more careful reading I got the impression you only used your card for 2D work. Have you ever tried really stressing the card with that cooler? BTW, I did search and didn't find a lot of success s...

Any suggestion for cooling a X1950 Pro
I bought a His X1950 Pro used and it has the most annoying fan I've ever heard. Whiny fans may be annoying but they've got nothing on a clicking fan. I've done some searching and discovered that do to the VRM design these can be difficult to cool. I originally wanted to go fanless but I doubt that's...

I'm not sure the button issue is major enough. As long as you don't push hard, the buttons will not break. And avoid using the reset button because that's really the weaker button. The Solo is not exactly a budget case and I think it's silly to have to baby it. Cases are one of those few things tha...

Any decent non-Antec case for <$100?
I know everyone loves the Solo but I don't won't to deal with the crappy buttons breaking. I've been doing a lot of looking and am having no luck. I did some searching and some of the ones recommended here in the past like the Evercase and the hec 6a19 (I think that's the right model #) are no longe...

First of all I did do a search both for the Evercool and the Sunon. I think I found one post about the 60mm Sunon(although not that particular model) and nothing about the Evercool. I always search before posting otherwise I'd also be asking about 40mm fans. Secondly, I stated in my very first sente...

Help me pick a sixty BY TEN mm fan...
I know a 60mm fan can't be quiet but I'd like to get the best for a reasonable price. I'm not paying $13-14 for one of those SilentX. It needs to be thin, 10mm is preferable but I could probably squeeze in a 15mm one if need be. I've looked and can't find any of those JMC Panther ones anywhere. Anyw...

I actually got rid of my Samsung because I was starting to hear a ringing in my ears. It could have been there all along and I just never noticed it until I started listening for high-pitched noises but it's better not to take a chance. Bad thing is it's still there. I did some measurements with my ...

IsaacKuo, I took a look at that thread about the Zalman VGA cooler and you seemed to say that it wouldn't work in a tower case because it had to be kept horizontal. So, even if it wasn't $35 with shipping it wouldn't work anyway. Or am I completely misunderstanding? I cool my Tualatin Slot-1 setup w...

I run a Slot 1 PIII 600 (IBM manufactured with massive aluminum heatsink & no fan) in a 3U case with minimal ventilation. The power-supply fan (Enermax) is reduced to the absolute minimal fan-speed. I have no other case fan and there is not an awful lot of ventilation. I have had NO problems with s...

Sorry, I was refering to Goober's attitude that this system didn't deserve any money being put into it because it was "such an old system". Well it does seem kinda odd to spend $25 on a heatsink for a cpu I paid $10 for. That's like going out and buying an Athlon 2500 and spending $250 on cooling i...

I guess you don't want to spend much money on a system like that. What fan do you have on the coolermaster? What fan sizes can you fit on that cooler? Is it running at full 12V today? What RPM is it running on? It's the stock fan. Very, very noisy. Conventionally mounted I might be able to fit a 70...

Quiet cooling for a Slot-1
Anyway to cool a Slot-1 cpu quietly? I have a Celeron 900 now and plan on putting a Celeron 1.4ghz in there eventually so would like something that can handle both, smaller is better. Also, I have no case fans in my case right now. Temps are in the mid 40's with the small cheap Coolermaster I have o...

Most of the Samungs I've got from Newegg have been shipped fairly decently except for the last. It had nothing but a single layer of bubble wrap protecting it from the botton of the box and most of the bubbles were popped. It still seems to work though. Also, I wonder why everyone is finding the JVC...
