I assume you were getting lock ups and reboots running it fanless? That's why you said it was too hot, right?hightower wrote:Hi, do you mean x800 or 9800xt ?? I just installed a zm80d on my club3d 9800xt. It fits... but forget running it passive cause it runs way too hot!! .. a fan at 5v will do the trick though.

I notice games sound much better w/ EAX 4 compared to EAX 2. But I cannot notice a quantifiable difference between playing a CD through my audigy 2 to my gigaworks speakers from playing a CD on my denon stereo to my mission speakers. I'd say sure, they're different, but I can't definitely say that o...

Yes... Redo the TIM everytime you remove the heatsink. Microscopic dust can get onto the paste, and can adversely affect heat transfer. Explain to me why dust would get on the TIM when you removed the affixed heatsink, but not when you applied fresh TIM. It doesn't make sense. Either way, you can't...

If only they'd deal with the resample issue... I would expect resampling to 48khz in the Audigy 3 as well. The fact is, more small time developers benefit from it than audio enthusiasts are hurt by it. The good outweighs the bad. Creative's official response is that 48khz is an industry standard; a...

Simply put, there's nothing out there, aside from Soundstorm (motherboard exclusive) that can encode things to a DD signal for your reciever. Any other sound card you can get will give you 2 channel only in all applications that don't have DD or DTS encoding. You did bring some good news in letting ...

But the thing is, I think that this kind of thing has happened to me before. I smear the paste around a bit, taking a fair amount with my finger, so that there is almost none left, and I get better temps. It's really disturbing, cause you get used to bad temps, and suddenly they're good. BTW I don'...

I've been waiting for Antec's Phantom power supply, but now I've stopped waiting. I've been enquiring about that for months with several emails to Antec. The showed one at one of the Comdex shows, absolutely ages ago, but everytime I emailed them since, they kept on saying no definite release date....

2 reserators.... think about it... you can get a X800XT for how much u fork over for 2 of those babies. As mentioned before, I suppose putting a case fan blowing on it would be good... but how though? Blowing upwards on one side wouldn't be fair, would it? I'd have to have like... 4 fans blowing up...

Re: X800XT + Zalman VGA Water Cooling. Risk it?
I'm planning on getting ATi's Radeon X800XT-PE from CompUSA on the 27th, when they "say" it's going to be in stores. I was also considering purchasing a Reserator as well as Zalman's water cooling solution for VGA cards, forgot the model number. Do you think I should risk it? Yes? No? Advice? Sugge...

Globe 120 and AcoustiFan AF120CT, both, are 120s that can run just fine from mainboard header and allow monitoring. They come thermally controlled but are easily modded to fixed-speed by nipping off the thermistor and shorting the two leads together. I highly recommend the Globe 120; you can get th...

I'd be fine if it loaded @ 60C w/ a reserator cooling CPU & GPU. Since this PC runs 2 instances of Folding@home non-stop, I'm always at load, and for my IC7-G and P4 3ghz, that means 71C. That's with my Zalman 7000Cu @ 12v and 120mm Acoustifan @ 12v. So it's hot AND noisy. I've forgotten to turn up ...
