If the cafe WILL serve the gaming crowd then you'll also need some script that basically rewrites the whole hdd on clients. You can't believe the lengths people will go to install cheatware and the use public cafe clients so their home IP doesn't get banned. That means domain control, restricted acc...

Undervolting as a means of CPU Cooling
Although there are several references to undervolting throughout the site & forums, I see few newcomers taking advantage of this wonderful & free cooling technique. Then I noticed that most articles talk about undervolting & underclocking in one breath and that may be a turn-off for newcomers. Anywa...

I'll comment on a cafe setup in general. I had the chance to talk to the owner of one of the biggest & best known gaming cafes in my city. He said most of his dollars went to a good server & good network infrastructure. He WAS talking about 60+ machines though, so it may be a bit over the top for yo...

IMO, the one and only HTPC case worth paying a lot for:

The drive bay has a drive cover, not a full blown door. Cooling is all 80mm. And it's very beutiful. The darn Silverstone distributor in my country doesn't import these though

Hehe, missed that thread as the pics just weren't coming through. No, I plan on decoupling the entire PSU case. Even with decoupled fans, due to tight spacing some vibration still remains. And it's amplified along the length of the PSU so that you have the innermost corner transferring significantly...

I also figured I should cleanup the box layout considerably to improve airflow Zalman: "What is this strange odour?" Maxtor: "Fresh air, sir!" Loved the blutack hdd decouple btw. Let me see if I can find some over here. All my hdds are suspended but I've been thinking about decoupling the PSU. This...

OK, question for Ed, As I have no access to an AGP MSI 6600, I have to choose between two alternatives. As I've grown accustomed to passive cooling, I'll have to go with Aerocool (I don't like heatpipes going around the back, so Zalmans are out). Since you've had hand-on experience, do you think I'l...

Just a little note. The review says nothing about a fan and the packaging is the standard brown box. Well, I just got mine and surprise! It's a clamshell with a nice 92mm on top!! Naturally the fan is going to get replaced with my precious Nexus, but the stock Thermalright fan isn't bad at all. In f...

My Seasonic is modded by MikeC himself to run at 5V all the time. It performs well and while the exhaust is warm, it never got too warm to worry about. Cost is... well, it was from MikeC's inventory so I got it cheap :) The reason I asked about suspension is I tried suspension with the trays for my ...

WELCOME TO SPCR !!! If you feel comfortable with fan-modding a PSU (and thus voiding the warranty :) ) I'd say definitely go with the Seasonic. The reason the Seasonic is all the rage is because it's so efficient. No other comes close. As the PSU along with the hdd is the hardest to silence, every ...

Totally shutting down the VGA is AFAIK impossible. Computers usually refuse to work without one :) However, you CAN get a low power card like a ATI Radeon 9200SE (has DVI & is passive) and use ATITool (I don't know if there's something similar in Linux) to take the speed way down in 2D. As for DPMI ...

Some of those BIOSes disable CPU cache if "load fail-safe defaults" is pressed. That might be a reason. Just checked my PPDs. Folding the same P1475_tet1_03_1 (364 pointer Gromacs) Athlon64 3000+ (@ 2104 MHz) is doing 329 PPD (and I'm browsing on it too) AthlonXP 2000+ (@ 1663 MHz) is doing 119 PPD ...

WELCOME TO SPCR !!! Sorry, can't be of much help but I have a similar problem with an Epox board and a 3-year old Fortron 300W PSU. If I let the PSU rest 5 minutes, usually it powers up without problems. As long as I don't reset anything, I'm fine. Resetting usually ends up in a frozen "press DEL" ...

OK, so you have the thermal pad - I was wondering how you got so nice temps with NO interface material !!!. Thermal pads aren't really efficient and every one I used deteriorated after about 6 months. Investing in some Arctic Silver 5 is very much advised. Neil's advice is very good. Most "standard"...

WELCOME TO SPCR!!! Extreme OC & quiet rarely go hand-in-hand. Respectable OC & quiet is possible however. I've yet to see a Tt fan I'll like. Why don't you try & see what you can do with the stock fan on the XP90? It looks pretty nice & blows a lot of air too. Mine is a tad noisier than a Panaflo L1A

Top Motor, Dynatron and Dynaeon are the same company. Nexus fan manufacturers: 80mm: Bi-sonic 92mm: Dynaeon 120mm: Yate Loon While most specs are identical to the Nexus, the Nexus runs at 1500 rpm, while that fan runs at 2200. At those speeds the difference could be VERY pronounced. I came across th...

I've looked at a very similar setup last weekend. Exact same board - just not sure about the Pro2 part (865PE chipset, L775 socket) with a prescott 3.0GHz CPU. The BIOS was set to run VCore at "normal" which it stated was 1.28V. MBM showed the motherboard feeding 1.22V to the CPU. I didn't have time...
