In addition to all the above: as high a pressure curve as the fan can handle, preferably even when undervolted. I suppose this'll mean the fan will draw more current than usual so will have to use molex connectors. But of course i'd like an rpm output like the ones on PSUs (just the tach & ground si...

Great review Jan, Just 3 quick points: #1: It might be a good idea to include the registry entry that allows it to start at boot #2: CnQ does NOT have to be enabled in BIOS for CrystalCPUID to work - at least not on my Abit VIA board. #3: Benchmark programs usually report decreased performance due t...

Improvements in habitats, farms and to a degree warehouses have great returns on the investment I would actually like a "maintenance center" building to have an extra structure bonus to maintenance. After a while, pure research just doesn't lower it enough. Especially if you want to maintain a large...

I am not doing RAID. Only have a single SATA disk and a PATA. MB is Asus A8v Deluxe. I know, but there should be an option in BIOS that says "enable RAID BIOS". When enabled, you'll still be able to attach your drives seperately, but the controller does something funny to them so that they DON'T bo...

Lived through Jerry's problem, lived through Lee's problem. Both were fixed with BIOS upgrades + newer drivers. (My board was ABIT KV8Pro with the K8T800 Pro chipset) It seems the onboard SATA driver does not show SATA drives as regular ATA drives. Especially if RAID BIOS is enabled. A BIOS update f...

Several comments: gasganet, Noiseblocker fans have a very annoying tick (due to ball bearings) that get worse when undervolted. And the S3 is a pretty loud fan (by SPCR standards) to begin with. Try Nexus fans (especially 92mm ones) and you'll be blown away with the difference. Ronin, gasganet is ri...

idle temps are not a good way to test the efficiency of a heatsink. There may be background processes running that you may not be aware of, etc. Best is to run a load program like CPUBurn or Prime95 and compare the load temps. I'll agree that your temps are just fine. The nexus at full speed makes s...

My "large" collection (of two :) ) samsung drives are both quiet (one JVC one NIDEC motor) wrt motor but both exhibit significant vibration. I would be VERY CAREFUL about even CONSIDERING replacing fans on an LCD panel. LCD material isn't metal and it's very susceptible to damage through heat. Even if you don't damage anything in the swapping process, you can be nearly sure that you've significantly reduced the operating life (and LCDs d...

That looks like a great & cheap setup. For the harddisk, I'd say Samsung drives are a tad quieter but you DO have to suspend. The difference is night & day. If you don't go samsung, don't worry, the difference isnt all that big when suspended. Some melamine foam also helps keep the edge off harddriv...

2800 rpm & 11.7 dBA?? nooooo way. As for slot coolers, I fail to see the need. A well designed airflow case will do all required cooling with the standard exhaust. If I was concerned about cooling the VGA, I'd go for a more direct approach like a VGA silencer. You might perhaps need one if you pack ...

Even an open grill like the Sonata's (or the 3000b) can make quite a racket, especially with a slow/quiet fan like a nexus/yateloon. Softmounting makes a difference depending on how well balanced your fans are. For example, I'd be willing to bet money that hardmounting my Nexus fans would make no di...

One bit of warning with the Samsung drives though. This is based on my extremely small sample of 2 but I've seen similar posts on the board so.... The Samsung drives (I have one with JVC non-FDB, one with Nidec) are the quietest I've tried when suspended but tend to vibrate more (the JVC more than t...

odd, i hear everything besides the hd. Try turning on your computer with the harddisk plugged in and not plugged in. While the case looks like a good idea initially, from prior experience with the setup (see Odin in sig), I can say that's a first class ticket to cook your suspended harddrives. If you don't suspend, then yes, it might be a good setup. However, you need to put relatively cool parts in there or the P...
