No, this is actually a real problem.

But most people don't notice it because of other noise or they don't have sensitive hearing.

But does it reduce idle whine? Maybe you need to use the "whine cooler" version? :) :x  Well looks like I have found a place to buy coolpacks (shoprite). Problem is they're $5 each, bringing up total cost of quieting 2 drives to $15 (or even $20). I'd like to test how it silences one drive be...

Damn! I guess it's time to go to mcmaster for some foam.

Also I checked the nearest Rite Aid, but they didn't have anything good. All other pharmacies were closed because this was a Sunday night.

I'm not going to vote none because I know my harddrives will fail soon after.

Especially with their 50C temperatures. Yeah I know it's not bad, but it's always better to have lower temperatures.

Re: too hot 9800 pro

god damn that video card produces so much heat.. YES. It is by far the hottest part of my computer. When I was deciding what graphics card to buy, I thought 9600XT for $150, 9800P for $200 and got the 9800P. When I'm playing a game the PSU fan ramps up to max. I haven't had any problems with overhe...

On a slightly different topic, can someone contrast the noise level of the "loud" 1604 or 1614 drives with the noise produced by the latest Hitachi and/or WD drives in the same 160GB range? I'm trying to determine whether the JVC motors are just loud in comparison to what people expect from the Sam...

I went through 3 drives with Newegg and they were all JVC. All of these drives were SP1614C's though. I might try talking to Samsung about this, but only once I get my new non-whine powersupply.
