yes, mine does not have the FBD stamp and it was made in 12/04. It is a rev D. I am going to mount it soon in the new antec SLK3000b I have coming. perhaps we need a more reliable go to "quiet" drive around here? :) I am a newbie...can anybody suggest a suspension method for the complete....(i won'...

But does it reduce idle whine? Maybe you need to use the "whine cooler" version? :) :x  Well looks like I have found a place to buy coolpacks (shoprite). Problem is they're $5 each, bringing up total cost of quieting 2 drives to $15 (or even $20). I'd like to test how it silences one drive be...

looks like all 1614C have JVC motors and the batch manufactured in Mar 2004 is particularly whiny heh, both of mine are manufactured in Mar 2004. Perhaps I should RMA one again and see if anything changes. The problem is that Newegg might give me a refurbished disk since it's over 90 days since my ...

Re: too hot 9800 pro
god damn that video card produces so much heat.. YES. It is by far the hottest part of my computer. When I was deciding what graphics card to buy, I thought 9600XT for $150, 9800P for $200 and got the 9800P. When I'm playing a game the PSU fan ramps up to max. I haven't had any problems with overhe...

I'm running an MSI K8t neo-fis2r. I know pretty different, but my CnQ works fine, multiplier drops to four. Same here. Cheapest 3200 ram available (Corsair value) 2x512mb. Yes, that's two slots. I only had a single problem with dual slots: I had to change the locations of the memory from -XX to X-X...

Re: No dice at MicroCenter ... and how loud is "loud&am
On a slightly different topic, can someone contrast the noise level of the "loud" 1604 or 1614 drives with the noise produced by the latest Hitachi and/or WD drives in the same 160GB range? I'm trying to determine whether the JVC motors are just loud in comparison to what people expect from the Sam...

I went through 3 drives with Newegg and they were all JVC. All of these drives were SP1614C's though. I might try talking to Samsung about this, but only once I get my new non-whine powersupply. Anyway, look at all the insulation I had to put around them (here is shown only 1 harddrive) and I can st...

I just got my new Antec TP380 through the RMA and it's dead on arrival! Also, even though I specifically told them to send me the SATA version, they didn't! Amazing. I wonder how they stay in business... maybe their products are very good? (even though they aren't, at least for me :? ) I really hate...

Yes, it looks like NIDEC motors are the quiet ones. :( I say :( because I just got my RMA'd harddrive. It's quieter than the old one (since there was something wrong with the old one), but it's still not as quiet as I expected. Also it looks like all SP1614C's are JVC and whiny. If someone can prove...

Antec customer service was actually very good. I didn't have to fill out any RMA forms. I think I called 1-800-22ANTEC. I don't remember right now. I don't know what you're talking about. No matter which number I call them (even the non-tollfree ones), they always tell me to leave a message and "th...

Your Spinpoint harddrives are advertised as having Fluid Dynamic Bearings However, it seems that some of them do not. Fluid Dynamic Bearings (FDB) are supposed to remove the idle high-pitched whine that many non-FDB harddrives have. I have polled others on the internet who have Samsung Spinpoint ha...

seems like only the SATA drives do not have FDB labeled on the spindle... hopefully these ARE FDB drives though. SP0812C is SATA. Scott and dukla2000's drives have FDB stamps on them. As unfortunate as it seems, it looks like Samsung is simply shipping some drives without FDB even though they say a...

i have 2 SP1614C's. Both JVC w/o FDB :( interestingly, if operated seperately, both have a very consistent, nearly inaudible whine. However when both are plugged in, i get this "beeping" whine which is very annoying. If I put my ear right next to my case it's very distinct. Hopefully this FDB thing...

this thread The differences are caused by Samsung using non-FDB motors when they clearly advertise FDB motors as one of the Spinpoint's major selling points, or so it seems right now. When I get a different spinpoint back from my RMA, hopefully one with an FDB motor, I will check to see whether the...
