I could put it back, but it is loud.

I did post on the Abit forum, but did not get any solutions, although my main focus was to disable the alarm, not find a quieter fan.

My impression was that fans that size and speed tend to just be noisier than is optimal.

Trick a MB sensor into thinking a fan is there?

Is there any way to "dummy" a fan? My motherboard, Abit kv8max3, had a small northbridge chipset fan that I replaced with a heatsink, only to find that the MB alarms continuously if it does not detect a fan spinning at least 1000 rpms there. The alarms cannot be disabled in the Bios or in software. ...

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, the fan was broken, because no connection/reconnection would cause it to work. I replaced it with the Nexus 120, which is very quiet. I had to use screws to attach it instead of the silicon plugs that are stock with the Antec fan. I was surprised that the Nexus brack...

Was the installation difficult? Did you have to modify the OTES bracket at all?

(That SilenX does look like a good fan, cant help but notice they are asking $14.95 for a 40 mm fan!!!)

Nexus NX-3000- Anyone done a fan mod on this PSU?

I have a Nexus NX-3000 and feel it could be quieter- still noticeably loud to me, although under a fairly heavy load from a multi HD system. I am considering moding the fan with an Acoustifan 80ct, like Ed Ng did to his Antec PSU (and I also did with an Antec). Has anyone modded this particular PSU?...

Replacing Antec Sonata case fan- couple of issues/questions

For some reason, the 120 mm case fan for my Antec Sonata has stopped spinning. I will replace it (not sure yet with which one, am reading various reviews here, maybe Nexus) When I looked at the connections, there is no typical 3 pin connector, but 2 wires that go directly into a power receptacle off...

CPU fan for AMD "Sempron" 2500 socket A system?

I just ordered parts for a system built with a AMD sempron socket a 2500 cpu. I started to reflexively order a zalman 7000A CPU heatsink fan but then I wondered- how noisy will the stock fan be for this CPU? And is a big zalman setup necessary for this particular, relatively low performance chip? Wi...

Quietest/best fan for modding a PSU?

Anyone have an opinion which fan is best to use for modding a standard ATX PSU?

I have seen the SilenX, AcoustiFan and Papst used- any evidence or anecdotes to support one vs the other?

Thanks for all the replies. I did find that by disconnecting the hard drive and the 120 mm fan, that the system is noticeably quieter. The PSU is still audible (at least I think that it is the PSU that I am hearing) but I think that if I can quiet those other components enough that I might have acco...

Regarding the Papst, do you have some type of controller device that allows you to regulate fan speed or voltage? Or can you make that adjustment with stock parts?

Thanks for the feedback... To answer your question about whether the noise still seems to be coming from the Nexus PSU: I reevaluated the situation, and there does seem to be some noise from the rear 120 mm case fan, and to a smaller degree, the ATI 9600 graphics board fan. I think the Zalman 7000Cu...

Oh, and to answer the question about grills, I havent done any grill cutting, and I'm not sure what you mean by that. Is that a recommended case modification, and if so what does it do? I assembled the system in the case without having to cut anythig.

Thanks for the replies... To answer the questions: The noise that it makes is a low frequency, whirring type noise, like an air conditioner. It is not high pitched or squeaky, and I dont think the fan is malfunctioning per se. Regarding drives in the system, I have a 120 GB Western Digital 7200 RPM ...

Disappointed in Nexus NX 3000

I am sorry to say that I am an unhappy owner of a Nexus NX 3000. I bought that PSU in an effort to make a very quiet PC. I do not need to be "noiseless." Unfortunately, despite the excellent reviews for this PSU, it is still by far the loudest part of my system. My system is as follows: AMD64 3000+C...
