My previous Samsungs and Seagates were so noisy, I had to lay them down on bubble wrap inside the case. This Hitachi is silent enough that I can directly mount it without padding and you can't hear a thing from your chair. The lack of vibration is a beautiful thing and it makes me wonder why so many...

Interesting. Mine is the 2 platter 500Gig. No idle noise, even with the case open and my ear beside it. This is a clear contrast from the Seagates and Samsungs that have high pitched idle whine. Especially the Samsung.

You must have either got a bad card or perhaps a bad motherboard...or PSU? I have the ECS card, and absolutely no coil whine. I know what it sounds like too because I have experienced it on some older computer components from previous builds.

I've had this drive for about a month now. Best drive I've ever owned in my 20 years of PC experience. I've extensively used Seagates, Samsungs, IBMs, and Western Digitals. They either had idle whine, seek noise, undulating vibrations, or Seagates constant grinding STIR. With this Hitachi drive, I c...

I love my Hitachi 500GB. I own many hard drives: Samsungs, Seagates, WD....this Hitachi is the quiets idle and seeks by far. It also feels the coolest to the touch. I can't remember the model number. It's the new energy efficient one.

Excellent deal, you will love it. I use a 32" 1360x768 Westinghouse TV for my monitor, so the card runs perfect at the factory clocked 650mhz core.

Well, I finally got all my parts together. Surprisingly, this setup uses less wattage than the older PCs. With general usage, this one is between 70 and 80Watts on the Kill-A-Watt. This is probably thanks to the Core2Duo processor automatically underclocking to 2Ghz when not needed. Under load (3dma...

Trust me, you won't notice a 16W difference even if you left your computer on 24/7. I switched all the lights in the house from 100W incandescents to 22W fluorescents and it barely made a dent in the bill. From the reviews I've read, the majority of 3850s and 3870s are still annoyingly loud...combin...

I was going to get an HIS ICEQ3 3870. But because they are impossible to find for a decent price, I opted for the ECS 8800GT with Accelero S1 Rev2. The Direct X 10.1 on the ATI card was enticing though.

The coil whine is quite noticeable. It's not like I had to get down on my knees to hear it. I have a Honeywell AirPurifier that is constantly blowing next to me. I don't care so much about a quiet system, but rather a cool running one that doesn't need excessive electricity. But the whine/buzz is hi...

My 500W S12 makes no coil whine. I purchased the M12 because I was going to buy another motherboard and I needed another PSU that has the 24 pin connector. I also liked the idea of having modular connections, rather than having to stuff all the unused cables into my 5.25" bay. I had assumed that if ...

I am shocked to read that your S12 buzzes. When did you purchase your PSU? I bought mine back in 2005. If you bought yours more recently, does that mean that all Seasonics manufactured today buzz? And more importantly, WHY are these buzzing when Seasonic made so many PSUs that operated perfectly wit...

So I can still here the noise even though I have a Honeywell Air Purifier blowing across the room, I'm...

Seasonic M12 500W is buzzing

In the past, I have had great experience with Seasonic PSUs. My first one was a 300W Seasonic Tornado. My second one was a 500W S12. I still own both of these PSUs and both are extremely silent. Well you can imagine my shock and disappointment when I purchased a 500W M12 from Newegg last week for $1...

Anyone experience whining with their S-12?

I have an S-12 500W rev A1 and have noticed a rather annoying electric whine. What is odd about the whine is that it sounds like it is coming from the motherboard. But I have installed the PSU into different computers and all of them produce this same whine with the PSU. No whine is heard when my ol...

Hi Datapappan,

When you say you hear no special sounds, do you mean that your hard drive is silent except for reading writing to the disk? Do you not hear an oscillating whine? Do you hear grinding every few seconds followed by clicks? (independent of reading/writing) What capacity is your drive?
