I'll pass this on to the author.

In the full table (XLS or PDF), you'll find that data reads 3.9 dBA and 13.2 CFM, which is still impossibly low, given the residual noise that any fan would make regardless of rpm.

I don't have ...

Have an Antec TP380 on the bench now. It's pretty quiet, but with 2 fans, a bit noisier than either the new Zalman or the Seasonic. Haven't had a chance to push it yet to see what happens to fan speed under load. Look for the full review soon. I'm surprised what you say about the Pabst 12 dBA modded...

It's a tossup between the ZALMAN ZM300A-APF and the Seasonic. Other than 5V Panaflo modded PSUs, they're the quietest I've encountered. The rest are noisier; don't know anything about the Fortron 300. None will be as quiet as your 3100 HSF, because that fan is "sealed" inside the case while any PSU ...

Sounds like you've got one of the earlier models with an external fan control thermistor that can be located anywhere -- within reach of the cable, anyway. Inner or outer fan or both - don't know which it controls. If you want the fan to go slow, put it in a cool spot; or put it next to the CPU/HS i...

The Zalman & the Seasonic (also reviewed) are the quietest unmodified PSU I have heard so far. Too bad about Speedfan. I think it's a very promising technology, but the interface needs to be simplified a bit, if possible. Would be nice if more hardware supported it. Regarding the thermal speed control, it doesn't require *any money* for development -- it already exists, just not in the form y...

dBA results -- taken with the mic ~1" from the side of the PSU fan -- ie, not directly in the airflow path, which causes windnoise to exaggerate the readings. If you're willing to "waste" a bit of CPU power, underclocking and undervolting can do wonders to cool CPUs down. Each 0.1 volt drop gives you ~1-2C reduction. I have a 1G T-bird (completely unclocked with pencil trick) I run at 665 MHz (133 x 5) at 1.2V. The CPU temp drop is ~10C. Look at the way t...

For a start, you could get a Zalman fanmate 1 and reduce the CPU HS fan speed. Also try a Vcore reduction of 0.2V. That might be quiet & stable enough and still keep the CPU cool enough. If not, Alpha 8045 or Swiftech MC462 or Thermalright AX7 with a Panaflo 80L fan at 5-7V should do fine. Ditto the...
