Hi suchageek, Your email landed last night, and I've been aware of your posts here... just been too busy on the long weekend. NZXT have a new variant out, its called the Noctis 450. http://www.nzxt.com/product/detail/154-n450-noctis-gaming-mid-tower.html At best, it looks interesting... but I bet it's not better, not in any significant way. As long as NZXT remains wedded to its vision of aesthetics, I can't see it moving ...

An interesting case my son just transplanted his system into is the Phanteks Enthoo Pro Series. He got the one with the window, which also comes with a PSU "tunnel". It has a 200mm front fan. It lowers the noise level from the (ancient?) Evercase 4252 it was in. Remember Evercase? :o Evercase -- I ...

Re: Zotac GTX 970 AMP! Extreme Core Noise Review
Here's Zotac's response when I showed them your post, Jay: ZOTAC works on several revisions at a time to have ready during testing. Since all GPU BIOS needs to go under the knife for approval each time, ZOTAC tends to keep approved BIOS revisions unchanged and only submit the newer updated BIOS whic...

Incidentally the sound dampening on the Cosmos makes a big difference in smoothing out fan noise, muffling HDDs, and eliminating whine... How can you tell? Have you compared it with and w/o the damping? Here's why it makes so little difference: Any foam less than say 1" thick, virtually regardless ...

Re: Recommend Case + Noctura Fans for A10-7800 build & PSU
Go for an Fractal Design Define R5 & use the stock fans. That will be quieter & cooler than the case + addon fans you're considering & about the same price in the end. The R5 fans are excellent. Corsair fans sound plain bad, imo. Tonal. Do change the stock AMD cooler for something better -- Scythe K...

Re: NZXT H440 Mid Tower Case
1. My point is, if the manufacturer makes a case with 6, or 8 etc 3,5" bays, you need to test the case according to its target audience and include if not all the number of supported drives at lease a fair number of them 2. Similarly, if the case has just 3 hdd bays, there is no point in testing th...

Another thing: After I enabled fan control in BIOS, I get an error during boot saying CPU fan error, press F1 to continue (on the American Megatrends screen). Hey, This is my first time posting and I was just wondering what your opinions were on using noctua fans in this build. Also how did you decide on the R5 rather than the NZXT H440. Re: Quiet Mini-ITX Gaming Build Guide #2: NCASE M1 Edition
Just use the link to Amazon in my sig -- that's a sure way of dropping a few $ into SPCR's revenue stream, thanks. As for the specific Zotac card, it's Zotac VCX ZT-90107-10P, but the pricing is pretty steep. The MSI and ASUS top cards simply will not fit -- the heatpipes stick up too far. What you ...

Re: Quiet Mini-ITX Gaming Build Guide #2: NCASE M1 Edition
We worked with the new Zotac 970... found a min 60% fan speed limit seemingly hardcoded into the firmware. Min noise is 17~18 dBA, pretty good, but certainly not as low as 0 as in the Asus or MSI top models whose fans stop at low load. The new single fan models probably aren't going to be that quiet...

I'm planning to do exactly this build, with only the graphic card replaced by the Asus Strix GTX970 listed as an alternative. Check the original M1 thread below, the Strix cards are probably too tall without modding. Reference type cards are your best bet. http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?p=1041...

After many hiccoughs, i've finally got my take on this build. It took 4 exchanges of GTX 970s (3 strix and the 1 msi version i have now) to get one with little-to-no coil whine and a replacement EVGA G2 850w PSU to eliminate a loud electrical buzz, but i'm basically there! 3 Noctua AF-14 PWMs at 40...

Any pics? If has the same form as a standard atx psu, with straight through airflow design & fan on the back exhaust side, then just replaceit with a quieter one -- or slow it down with resistors or zener diodes. Fan swap is probably easiest. I have a lot of those old 80mm Panaflo fans which were ve...

Electrocute oneself with unplugged PSU -- hmmmm. That sounds ridiculously stupid. I've been opening up & modding PSUs for 15 years. Never got even the tiniest jolt. Very nice looking. What crossover and amplifier are you using? It's a 3-way electronic xover with custom eq designed specifically for these spkrs. 24db/oct 120 & 1500Hz, iirc. Amp is 8-ch 40W/ch Rotel (probably the weak link). The 2 tweets in each spkr get fed by one ch, the mid by another, and eac...

Since I can't see any 250rpm fans causing vibration, it has to be from elsewhere. So if the PSU fan is the only other moving part... Easy enough to swap out the PSU fan if necessary. You have some spare 140mm fans, right?

SPCR staff have not heard of this product before, but the concept is hardly new. It's been used in the past, tho I can't recall right now which brands. However closing case +4db??? Seems vibrations because I can silence this by hard pressing top of case. Ideas how to deal with this? You need to identify the source of the vibration. Seems a bit odd if all the fans are spinning slowly and you don't have any HDDs. Perhaps there's a hard mechanical pa...
