Hey Mercury,
What about suspending your pump inside a res/tank? Or are you skipping that part, opting for a T-connector instead?

I "lurked" here for about... oh, a month? Something like that, maybe a little less, before I started posting. I may not be the most frequent poster here, because frankly -- I just don't have the time now, but I try to contribute here and there, when the opportunity arises. Silencers? Hehe, good one....

Mmm, the hd sandwich is a project of Mike's (at least, the first one I ever saw). If you go and look under storage on the main page, I'm sure you can find it. He did a couple of revisions to it also, might be worth checking up, as well as the recent rubber block modding madness . Something which I w...

Welcome to SPCR fetaost, I have tried neither of those products, but if I go into speculation: I'd tend to think that suspension (ie. novibes) is better than direct mounting (even if it is with rubber). I haven't felt the quality and "softness" of this rubber they use, and therefore it's a bit of a ...

Hiya poizen, I've actually seen this being done before, but I can't for the life of me remember where I saw it. They basically connected the 5V and 12V lines (if I remember correctly) by using some intricate electrical schematics (which I never quite wholly understood). This was not a fanless psu mo...

Hi there tyrian, I also have the voodoo 5 gfx card, and have also pondered about replacing the heatsinks, I was tempted to buy two alpha "for general use" heatsinks, but upon further inspection they did not fit. So I abandoned that idea a while ago. You could, however, most probably use a regular no...

The reduced die size hasn't made much a difference to the effieciency of cooling in my experience. It may be due to the more efficient heat transfer through the core on the thoroughbreds, but I'm not sure. (something about copper layers instead of aluminum inside the core) Just a small note to make...

Very interesting. We'll see if it reaches the PC market, or not. From the way the article presents it's 'findings', it looks as though it may take some time to get here. I find this bit rather interesting: Piezoelectric fans could be also be used to break up pockets of hot air in tiny spaces that ro...

Hi Billy, You could probably use any northbridge HS out there, as it has (as you observed) the push-pins to fit them. Another alternative is to take a 'regular' HS and thermal epoxy it on, using arctic silver epoxy, or by using some other method VIA probably would not want you be doing. ;) It looks ...

If you someday decide to remove this "box", you could probably go and ask your local tv-repairshop for the kind of laquer they use to spray the insides (coils) to quiet down whining tv's. I'm tempted to throw in a link, but I'm not 100% sure it's the right kind of laquer you need, so better ask them...

Thanks for the great answer, and for your own personal view on it. I too understand that since I do not know what's good, and what's not, it's probably better to get to the point with a fairly basic multimeter where I actually do know. :) I'll hopefully put it to good use in the future. My new compu...

Multimeter
Hello everyone, and merry (belated?) christmas! I got this for christmas, and this being my first ever multimeter, I'm just wondering... how "good" is it? Is it overkill, ie. has enough features to keep me puzzled about what they are, and what they do forever, or is it a mediocre multimeter that wil...

Hi John, I'm just astounded by the specifications of your (to me) killer system, I'm sure you'll have lots of fun with it. Regarding your PSU question, I think a Seasonic 400 watts will do just fine, I guess you could always take a look at Antec's offerings, but I doubt they would be equal in terms ...

Think I read the 80gb V's are single platter? so maybe they will be similar in quietness to a 40bg single platter IV? The single platter model of the barracuda V line is the 60GB model. The IV reached a maximum of 80 GB using two platters (40+40), and the V's (using 60GB platter technology) reaches...

I always planned on putting 2 120mm fans next to eachother... I had 2 120mm papst fans (the 26dba ones) in mind. Now I'm afraid that they would be overkill. Even if I put them at 7v they're gonna push alot mroe air than i need. So I was wondering just how slow you can get a 120mm fan to spin. I'm g...

The reason behind me asking is that I've yet to see vendors here in Sweden seperate the two existing cores, they just sell them all under xp1700+ and use the old "palomino" name for all of them, so it's uncertain you'll get a thoroughbred if you ordered, it could go either way basically. Thanks for ...

Kool 'n Quiet seems to have them, the product is named "Flexinut", although there is no picture of them. You can find them under fan accessories on the second page.
That's one place you can buy them from at least.

Providing a direct link from the heatsinks in the PSU to the chassis may not be the best of ideas, since the heatsinks are live (or so I've been told by people that have tried to find out for themselves ;) ). So in effect, you'd get 'zapped' everytime you tried to touch the aluminium frame, in case ...

Hi there wussboy. I am one who thinks in the lines of 'the more the merrier', so any contributions is of course taken under consideration. I'm not too sure which case model you're referring to, however, I do remember seeing that they used this case in one of their watercooling kits. LiteOn is actually the maker (as far as I know), swiftech just rebranded/used their product. It's pretty nifty with thumbscrews, and a bigger than usual PS...

A few questions about watercooling
I want to give this a shot, and see if I can put some sort of watercooling setup together. Before I do so, however, I have a few 'general' questions about it. I know that there are two types of cable width's and/or 'connector' (to the waterblocks) width's, generally speaking. 1/2" obviously allows m...
