Re: Need advice for a compact mATX case

Where are you from? South-east Asia... But, why would that matter? Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll definitely take a look at the Silencio 352, looks to be on par with the Core 1300 & 1500 sizewise. Will also take a closer look at the TJ08-E. I really don't like a bottom mounted PSU though beca...

Need advice for a compact mATX case

I need some help in looking for a compact mATX case. Looking around it seems like there's not all that much in the way of good options. The mini P280 never made it to market, and while Fractal has some nice cases in the Define range, they're all massive. Their mATX Define mini rivals my old ATX Ante...

Re: Upgrade fail, could use some advice...

Silverstone also sells the PS07, which is the TJ08-E with a different (uglier) front panel and 2x 120mm fans in the front instead of the 180mm. There are quite a few alternative 180mm fans as well, some 200mm fans with 180mm mounting holes might also fit. There is no reliable information as to how ...

I know you said you didn't want to cut up the drive cage, but... It sounds like you were thinking about removing the entire drive cage when cutting just a tiny portion might make the card fit. See here: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=155312 The Asus card is 10 and 5/8 inches, and the G...

Re: Upgrade fail, could use some advice...

I have an SG03 and it can be very quiet. What I would be wary of is HDD vibration. I soft mounted but still HDD noise dominates my system. Cooling wise it's amazing for the graphics card, not so amazing but workable for the CPU. I use a Scythe Zipand arranged without a fan so it really just atkes a...

Upgrade fail, could use some advice...

I was planning to do a major upgrade of my desktop, but I've run into a snag. The Asus GTX 660 Ti I bought doesn't fit in my Antec Solo. The fixed drive cage prevents the card from being installed. I've looked at drilling out the rivets and taking out the drive cage, but it appears to play a major r...

Top vs. bottom mount and which way up?

I find myself in the position of having to consider a new casing, and looking at current designs, it seems bottom mounted PSUs are now quite popular. Most other places on the web cover top vs bottom mounting as a cooling issue, but I'm curious as to where the SPCR crowd stands on the issue from the ...

Re: Major upgrade, need heatsink advice.

As a matter of fact I do happen to have a Dremel... Removing the drive cage is something I'm already thinking about. Looks like it's held in place by rivets, so I can drill the heads out. Or rather use a tungsten carbide/HSS bit to core it out. If I'm careful that should come out without damage (and...

Re: Major upgrade, need heatsink advice.

Asus/Asrock and a 775 adapter for my SI-120: I did consider the Asrock boards, the fast boot-up time would be nice to have. But selection of boards over here is limited, and the price differential might not be as good as it is elsewhere. Right now the Asrock website isn't loading for me, so I can't ...

Re: Major upgrade, need heatsink advice.

What makes you think that an existing, well tested PSU which has served you well for many years is suddenly going to become a component killer? That simply doesn't happen. If anything I'd be more worried about a new, untested unit, that's only had limited burn in testing in the factory on the other...

Re: Major upgrade, need heatsink advice.

I'm pretty sure that the Asus 660 Ti doesn't fit in an Antec Solo without modification. I had looked into that in the past for myself. Asus card = 10.7" long. Solo max GPU length ~10" That sound you hear is my head hitting the desk. Hard. Unfortunately I already ordered the card, and I should have ...

After 5+ years of service, it's time to upgrade my daily driver. Nowadays I use it a lot for the web and e-mail, but I do game a reasonable amount and the current config feels underpowered. Re: Seasonic website listing Platinum 520w, 660w and 760w PS

I really wish they'd offer a “Hybrid Silent Fan Control” equipped model in a lower wattage. It's nice that they're offering fanless models from 400 to 520 W, but having that fan setup would give me peace of mind. I frequently see ambient temperatures here over 30 °C. Slightly OT, but would it even b...

Re: Asus, MSI, Gigabyte - Advice and experiences?

The MSI card (N660 Ti PE 2GD5/OC) was my next choice, until I learned about its "dust removal technology". Apparently, when it first powers up, it runs its fans in reverse at 100% (which is quite loud) for at least 30 seconds. I thought at first that I would be okay with this, but when I considered...

Asus, MSI, Gigabyte - Advice and experiences?

I'm planning an upgrade/new system for gaming and could use some advice on the graphics card. The factors I'm keeping in mind for this are: reliability, noise level and cost. Thanks. Seems to be little info about it on the web. Maybe because it is a low power unit and 650+ W seem to be popular among enthusiasts... Trouble is I'm looking for a PSU for a Lian-Li PC-Q25. From what I've read, a 160 mm long modular PSU won't fit in there. Also, seems PSUs are either non-modul...

Re: Is the Intel Xeon E3-1260L available to buy?

Yeah, this is a vexing issue for people who are only building a few servers. The only reliable test I've heard about involves shorting pins on a DIMM. Or you could use a marginal ECC RAM stick which regularly produces errors... if you had one. That however does not tell you about CPU cache. Do you ...

It's good to get all this information together. :) Certainly helpful given how scarce info on "low end" parts is on the web.

Some other news, I read somewhere that Intel is ending (ended?) orders for the G620 and G620T this month. The article attributed this to the G630 and G630T.

FSP Aurum Gold 400 experiences?

Hi all, I'm looking at building a low end NAS, and I'm considering the FSP Aurum Gold 400 as a PSU. It's compact (important for the case I'm aiming for), seems to have decent efficiency, and would cost me about half of what a Seasonic X400 or X560 would.. The only thing I'm concerned about is the no...

Sorry to bump up this thread as well. It'd be nice if you had documentation or proof for the ECC support of the consumer dual-cores. That they take ECC RAM doesn't mean the controller makes use of it. Agreed. I saw things like this , and then questioned specifically whether i3 + ecc memory would sim...

The non-T G620 may also come with the low-profile cooler actually. I don't know but it's what someone said if I recall correctly. Maybe all the Pentiums and Celerons have the low-profile cooler. I recently bought a G620 (non-T) for a project, it doesn't come with the M350-friendly low-profile coole...
