Finally I found it!
In BIOS USB Configuration, USB Legacy must be enabled.
Otherwise USB boot will fail.

Hi! I have purchased the same board and I'm trying to boot it from USB flash drive like you did. But do not manage to get it working. I always end up with the error message: "Reboot and select proper boot device". The USB works fine to boot from on another PC. I'm using a PNY 4Gb USB flash. If I hit...

Thankyou so much for your suggestions! Indeed it was DMA/PIO mode behind this problem. Now DVD playback takes 8-13% CPU load. To see if DMA/PIO was the problem I tried to copy files from DVD to disk. CPU usage then went to 100% until copying was finished. Then I was sure. To solve this in Windows XP...

cpu usage when playing DVD
As I try to keep things silent one target is to keep CPU usage as low as possible. When playing DVD I'd like the GPU to do most of the job, letting the CPU to be idle. But I do not really succeed. When playing DVD CPU usage is around 50%. GPU usage is around 7%.This is with hardware acceleration tur...

I've been in contact with Aopen trying to get a replacement for the tiny useless heatsink. They told me that they do not replace the heatsink. The article should be edited according to this, because it is not true that Aopen replaces the heatsink for free or at all. I've tried to find a reseller in ...

Thanks for all interesting adds to this topic! :D My Plextor DVDR 708A will soon be replaced by one of your suggestions. For now I will try and use DVD Decrypter to make a HDD copy before watching movies. El_, Plextools is not loading at startup. I'm using UDMA mode 2. DVD read speed cannot be set i...

Plextools states that DVD playback is at 2X. I don't think that is true, my guess is 4X or maybe 8X. No I did not try Nero Drivespeed. Anyone got better results controlling PX708A with Nero Drivespeed than with Plextools? And still this drive is too noisy for me. Any suggestions of a DVD-burner with...

Silence when watching DVD movie
My HTPC is very close to totally silent. I use Panaflo fans and they run at 5v and Samsung SV1604N 5400rpm, you can't hear them @2M distance. My last silencing problem is the DVD-burner Plextor PX708A, when watching DVD it makes a lot more noise than I possibly can accept. Plextools doesn't make any...

I've read this thread with great interest. Would be further interesting to see how power hungry each of those cards are. The power hungryness should be related to how hot the card run, which is of great interest when trying to keep things quiet. Anybody know about how much power those cards mentione...

Paulrb, I used the case Lian-Li PC-9300, http://www.lian-li.com/product.php?action=viewPD&prdid=778&PHPSESSID=173cc95a87258b0ef1ca6f4e389a825d which I think is very similar to Silverstone LC-01. Lian-li is aluminium though. I am using Seasonic PSU with 8cm fan. Replaced the fan with Panaflo L1a and ...

Saw your early question in this thread about minimizing the number of fans. I built something similar to what you want and made a small modification in order to remove the CPU fan. If you use Seasonic Super Tornado or any other PSU with the fan sucking air from the box into the PSU this can be made....

I'd like to report my progress in silent playback of DVD-video and audio-CD using Plextor PX-708A. DVD-video. Doing futher tests I found that PX-708A will stick to 2X during playback of comercial DVD-video. But before playing make sure to close down Plextools and Nero Drivespeed. Especially Plextool...

Thanks Edward! Using Nero DriveSpeed does the trick. Reduces the maximum spin down to 4X. Still I think it could be even more silent. Further on I think its pathetic that Plextools cant do the same thing. Using Plextools I can slow down playback of audio CDs, but when playing DVD-video Plextools can...
