While this topic has died off, I took a chance and purchased a 700cu for my eVGA 6600GT AGP. I did not use the included ram heatsinks as they will not fit without some dremmel work. I have stress tested the card to the best of ability with the 700cu fully installed and it has worked flawless in my H...

A7N8X-E Deluxe & AMD XP-M 3000+ Compatible?
I have an A7N8X-E Deluxe running a AMD 2100+. I am in the process of upgrading this computer to an HTPC, I am wondering if a XP Moble 3000+ will work with my motherboard. This link does not list the processor as compatible, but I question the accuracy. http://www.asus.com.tw/support/cpusupport/cpusu...

I could easily see myself tossing two 6800U's into a duel PCI-E x16 capable motherboard/machine. As I think about the heat requirements The only option that comes to mind is water cooling. Even with a solution where hot air is expelled from the computer it seems like two 6800u's would tend to heat a...

I have a leadtek ti4400, I unpluged both fans on the heat sink and the card over heated (everything locked up). I tried running with one fan and everything still locked up, I now have both fans plugged in again. I would say your are not going to do any damage to your wife's card, based on my experie...

I have taken the route of never selling a hard drive. Instead I use them when I build my parents new computer or I take them into the yard and introduce them (only the really old ones, had a 4gb HD that fell into this cat.) to Mr. Sledgehammer. Usually 6-8 wacks with a 15lb sledge does the trick :-)...

I do not believe removing the stock PSU would void your warrenty. Considering that some places might even sell the case without the PSU. Finally the art of "Cable-Gami" as some like to toss around here is really just simply folding the flat IDE cables properly. Check out the following posts: http://...

Good points, I have never upgraded a CPU without upgrading the motherboard also. Only once did I upgrade my CPU/MB where I continued using the same memory. I won't be upgrading my current setup until late the second half of this year anyway, so I can take the wait and see attitude :-) Most of my nee...

Someone smarter than me might disagree, but if you are only testing your parts and the computer will only be running on the short term...I see no need to use the Artic Silver. Put everything together, crank it up make sure it all works to your liking and take it apart. I doubt the computer will be u...

I decided about a month ago that my next system will be an AMD 64 (maybe an fx if extra money starts burning a hole in my pocket). At this time I am awaiting the arrival of socket 939 and PCI Express for the next generation video cards. AMD processors have always provided more bang for the buck IMHO.

I don't think that you will have a problem with either PSU, if you don't need a new PSU and your current one is quiet enough then I don't see a need to toss down any cash. I have no clue regarding your 80mm fan but I would guess that you will beable to find away to mount it. The grill has lots of ho...

#1: I really don't think you will need the front fan. I am running the 120mm fan that comes with the case and of course my PSU fan. When I place my hand over the front panel, I can feel the air being sucked inside. #2: Wiss Tin Snips will cut through the grill like Butter ($12.99 at home depot). Sea...

Update: I have no clue how or why, but me temperature problems have worked themselves out. While still running a little hotter than I would like my CPU is currently running at about 52C and the ambient temps at 45C . Keep in mind these are the bios readings so things are prolly off. But atleast my c...

#1: I have no clue, but why would you want to use 80mm fans? It comes with a "fairly nice" 120mm fan, you won't need one for the front. The fan is prolly not up to par for the SPR crowd, but it holds it's own IMHO. #2: I don't know 100%, but based on this Sonata thread (http://forums.silentpcreview....

This is what I imagine (my own personal design so slightly off topic :-): Outside deminsions of the external water cooling solution: 13"x13"x19" (the 13"x13" plays a huge role, the 19" is deep enough to hold a BQE or similar sized case on top). The outer shell of the box is made of 1/2" plywood. Thi...

frootip, The Zalman heat sink has two mounting holes on each side of the heat sink. You will have to amputate the mounting arm between the holes on one side. If you have a Dremmel this will take all of 5 seconds. If you take my avenue I used a small hacksaw (very small, I use it to cut PVC pipes for...

Yeah, some friend and I were having a discussion about how its impossible for the CPU to be cooler than ambient. I guess the only real way to find out will be place a thermo inside and see how it reads after an hour or so... The experiment continues. Earlier someone posted that adding a fan to the f...

System Running Hot
those temps are seriously wrong. Ive tried configurations involving both a front fan and no front fan, and it did not change System temperatures at all. Do you have a rear exauhst fan? Or did you install the one that came with the BQE? Because ive never had a PC run that hot unless it was in high a...

I picked up a BQE today while I was out and about. When I saw that Bestbuy actually had them in stock I had to get one (I admit they are cheaper online). At any rate I spent alot of getting all the cable work correct and I decided to use the stock PSU. I made three mod's to the case: 1: Cut out the ...
