Re: MSI has an AMD 690G board in the pipeline too...
It will be called the K9AGM2-FHI . Note the location of the HDMI connector in the photo - no PCIe x16 riser card. It also uses the ALC888 instead of the 883 (better S/N ratio, slightly better features, etc.). However, this could be a tasty offering (aside from MSI stability issues), especially if y...

Help, factory Zalman-cooled Gigabyte 7800GT won't slow fan
This is the card - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814125214 The cooler as you might expect works very well, but the fan appears to always be running at the same speed... that is, full. At this speed, and with the other quiet components in my case, it is by far the noisiest part...

unfortunately the nearest CUSA is 30 miles away through heavy traffic, and the stock indicator on their site lists these units supply as "limited" so definitely not worth the trip Is the link i provided the right one? I don't care if the pic is wrong, I just want to get the correct product. If the l...

I've had two Nforce 2 boards and they both squealed/whirred/clicked/whined/whatever, depending on the load etc. Just like you described. MSI K7N2G-ILSR squealed like there was hell coming to earth, and Asus A7N8X-X, which I bought as a cheap replacement, too had the same problem, much less obtrusiv...

wow wow, lots of input from you guys, thanks a bunch :) I'm going to have to digest all this information and do some shopping. My new case, PSU, and mobo just came in today, so for now I will get by with the stock Tricool fan in the SLK3000B, but I definitely see some great suggestions on here, than...

Nforce chipsets prone to chirping/hissing/coil noise?
I don't mean for this thread to be controversial (even though the title may sound like it - just wanted to grab your attention ;) ) but I'm just wondering what others' experiences are when it comes to choke/coil noise on various motherboards. I have noticed that only a very VERY few motherboards on ...

thanks atomitude for clueing me in about those Coolermaster fans, I was considering them, but if they have buzzing and clicking then definitely not! To the guy who suggested the Yate Loon D12's, do they have any non-clear, non-LED variety of those? And preferably without the ugly useless molex passt...

thanks everyone for all your input :) I decided to go with the 380 to strike a balance between cost and potential noise. Neil I think what they are saying is that if all 3 units have the same setup, then at maximum power draw, the 330w unit will be at greater % of it's maximum load than the 380 or 4...

What Size Seasonic S12 should I get?
I've decided to nab an S12 for my system based on the many positive recommendations on this site, but I can't decide what size I should go for. I strongly suspect that even the 330W model would be enough to power my system, BUT I don't want to risk raising the noise level by making a lesser PSU work...

Arctic Silencer Classic sold out everywhere?
I've searched high and low and I can't find the original Arctic Silencer in stock anywhere. I guess this is no surprise, considering the new ones are crap and cost 2x-3x as much, but my question is... did Arctic Cooling finally EOL the classic silencers? If anyone has a link to someplace that has th...

My last quiet computer was in a Sonata I, but it was the "original" revision of the Sonata I that came with a PSU that had no SATA connectors. It was a good case, but I would agree that the current 3700 and 3000 models are better. I just checked out a newer revision Sonata I at a local store the oth...

Personally, i have an evercool aluminum fan. In my setup it gets very quiet when i take it down to about 5V with my fan controller. Or maybe one of the globes. It really depends by what you mean by decent CFM. heh, well it's not really about the CFM so much as it is the noise. I just want to have t...

Help me find my perfect 120mm fan
After messing about with an Antec BQE case, I've decided that the SLK 3000B will probably be the home for my soon-to-be quiet system, and therefore I'm going to need a pair of 120mm fans (or at least one). SHORT VERSION FOR THE IMPATIENT: I'm looking for a 120mm fan with 3-pin power ONLY, smooth, qu...

WD Caviar SE 300 GB producing hiss or white noise?
I bought a 300 gig Caviar SE after comparing it to several other drives. It seems to have the best seek noise (AAM on) of any 250+ GB drive I could find. The only problem is it seems to produce an on and off "hissing" sort of white noise, like you would hear from an old television set when there is ...

How likely is it that "gooping" the coils will fix the problem? It's very difficult for me to test the coils becaue the noise only happens intermittently and for brief durations. There are a few actions which reliably produce the noise, but it's going to be tough to perform those actions and go poki...
