Isn’t there a big difference between expecting a socket A board to support an Athlon XP-M and a socket 754 board to support a Turion? After all, socket A boards didn’t usually support PowerNow at all, whereas socket 754 boards usually support Cool ‘n’ Quiet. Well any half decent one should. This poi...

Thanks,

I have been using Speedswitch already and have been pleased with it. It's the fan speed control is the main issue currently. Also, I'm wondering if it's possible to undervolt a Celeron-M, as Speedswitch only works with Speedstep enabled CPUs; Pentium M & Pentium 3-M

Is there software to control laptop fan speed and cpu volts?

Is there software to control laptop fan speed and cpu voltage? I assume that most laptops have a variable speed CPU fan that is controlled by the BIOS and that these settings are not user configurable. Is there any software that allows you to take control of the CPU fan speed in the way that Speedfa...

EBuyer are cheap but unreliable and their customer service is awful. Last time I ordered something from them, it didn't turn up and they refused to chase it up for 15days. I was not happy. I would recommend ebuyer to people who don’t mind a mediocre delivery time with fairly poor customer service b...

It's hard to consolidate AMD’s figures with some of the power and temp readings that are being reported. Strange!

Does anyone know AMD’s plans for 90 nm? Are they going to put out S754 Athlons and Semprons? Sempron makes more sense to me, judging from their current chip line-up. I have a 3000+ Newcastle (CG revision) and can’t see myself moving over to S939 at this point, even though Winchester sounds excellent...

Hi Halcyon, I read somewhere the maximum total power output (or whatever AMD call it) of the forthcoming dual core chip range @ 90 nm will be around 95 watts. I may well be out here by 10% but this is a fair ball park figure. Using that as a base, it’s seems possible that a single core chip at 2000 ...

Thanks Josti, Sounds good to me. What voltage are you using? The thing that surprises me about the Winchester is that the voltage is only slightly less than the Newcastle. I think it’s 1.4 versus 1.5! Which means that all the gains are from the process change. This implies AMD are doing something ve...

Reading the machine translation of the X-86 review of the DFI board, which I’ve copied below, I’m not clear on whether the BIOS supports Speedstep fully. i.e. will it dynamically alter frequency and voltage. It’s great to see desktop boards arriving, but it’ll be a shame if they don’t support Speeds...

Thanks for sharing your findings Ralf. One way around this would be to attach the foam strips to the underside of the drive in such a way that they stick out slightly either side of the drive. That way it will be impossible for the drive to touch the sides. If the foam does touch the side of the cag...

Has anyone changed the fan in the stock power supply in the 3700QBE? I’m comfortable in replacing PS fans and have done it before. Try changing the Vcore to something so low you are fairly sure your system should stop working. If it doesn't stop working the Vcore isn't changed. I’d like to control the speed of the Antec SLK3700BQE's 120 mm case fan with Speedfan. To do that I’ll need to replace the molex power header with a 2/3 pin connector, which I think I have somewhere.
