Does that pushpin panel thing slide back and forth at all? Yes, as MikeC noticed, there is some leeway there. That black metal piece clamps the heatpipes in place, and the plastic pins/springs holds it against the CPU and chip, right? Is there a bottom piece too? I am guessing that the top and bott...

Hi res: http://rednerd.com/forums/spcr/

The heat sink that goes right on the cpu and NB is held on by those two flimsy plastic push pins, but it seems to work for the lowly 600MHz cpu.

Upgrading a Tranquil T2e VIA system

A long time ago I bought a T2e with a VIA ME6000 board. Unfortunately the motherboard died and so I'm looking for a more modern motherboard to replace it. I sent a note off to Tranquil PC and they were nice enough to reply very quickly. Unfortunately they recommended not upgrading the motherboard du...

55W enough for Atom 230 single core?

I have an old morex 55W DC-DC power supply from a via mini-itx system. Would this be enough to run an Intel BOXD945GCLF, 2.5" HD, 1GB ram and a fill size CDROM? This is for a headless server so it won't be too heavily taxed other than occasional CD ripping. From what I can tell, it looks like it sho...

Excellent. I've been keeping a record of all the matx 939 boards also. I should have started this thread before. I didn't have the Jetway or the Gigabyte with the new nforce GPU.

My Antec Minuet continues to sit empty.

Asus A8NE-FM (NF4 matx socket 939) spotted

This morning I found the board in the topic for $129 Canadian. It seems to be an OEM board and Asus's site doesn't mention it. I can't find anything else about it but I'm very tempted to order it.

Anyone find this board anywhere else?

Yes there are. However, the multiplier control doesn't have much affect unless you have an unlocked CPU like a mobile Athlon XP. I use this board (Soltek SL-75FRN2, NF2 Socket A) http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=9013&vpn=SL-75FRN2-L&manufacture=SOLTEK ...with a 2500 AXP-M and it lets me se...

Waiting for these microatx s939 boards to become more readily available is driving me crazy. I cannot find a source (in Canada) for any of them other than the MSI/ATI one. Hopefully the ASRock board with the ULI chipset becomes available soon. I guess the longer I wait, the less I'll pay for a Venic...

I sure hope VIA gets some S478 (or 479) C7 cpu's out soon, with the full RNG and AES features. Those are killer features for crypto buffs. I'm a big mini-itx fan but sometimes you just need more slots and options. New socket 370 boards and C3's with the Padlock goodies are almost impossible to find.

Low cost options - Sempron?

Now that Socket A stuff is becoming scarce and Socket 939 is a little on the pricey side with limited selection (mATX), which Socket 754 Sempron offers the best underclocking and undervolting potential? Or does it at all?

I have one of the newer Apple Pro keyboards with the USB hub in the back of it. It's a nice keyboard overall with a nice big ESC key (vi users will understand). I'm not sure I'd call it "silent" though. I'm not sure how the keys map out in Windows, but in Linux, I had to fool with xmodmap to remap A...

What kind of switch is it?

I've worked with some 3Com Superstack 10/100 switches. The company I worked for at the time had 2 dozen of them. After about a year the little fans siezed on probably half of them. 2 years later, they were still kicking just fine and with heavy trafffic, daily.

Silenx 60mm fan, 16dba! (maybe in space!)

I have a recent G4 Powermac that has 2 60mm fans in the powersupply. I set out to find the best 60mm fans I could to replace the ~30dba fans that come stock. After burning hours on the net trying to find something with good specs, I found these: http://www.silenx.com/productcart/pc/configurePrdz.asp...

I was kind of wondering the same thing. I have a 2500XP-M that is rated at 45W. I underclock it to 800MHz and undervolt it to 1.1v so it likely doesn't dissipate more than 25 watts at full load. On the web I see the odd 2400XP-M rated at 35W so I'm wondering if this is the same chip as the 2500, or ...

I'm glad to see a thread on this unit. The big question I have is how undervoltable is the motherboard in this machine?

Does it go down to 1.1v?

Does it have S/PDIF out on the motherboard?

My motherboard (cheapass soltek dual channel NF2) goes down to 1.1. I have a Athlon XP Mobile running at 800MHz @ 1.1v and its perfectly stable. I've had it converting mpeg2 to xvid for 36 hours straight without a hiccup. If the mobo could go down lower than 1.1, I would certainly try it.

I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents regarding my experience with Tualerons. I have a 1.3GHz part (default is 1.45v). At the rated speed it would not run reliably at anything below 1.40v (weird errors when doing heavy compiling). When clocked at 866 it would run at 1.30v. This was using a BH6 and Upgra...

I plugged a Tualatin into my BH6 1.0 on a Upgradeware Slot-T and was able to adjust the voltage between 1.30v and 1.55v. The Slot-T card has jumpers on it to supoprt down to 1.35v so I'm not sure what actually dictates the voltage getting to the CPU.

Need suggestions - replacing BH6/Tualatin setup.

I've been using a BH6 with a Celeron 1300 underclocked to 866 and undervolted down to 1.3v (as low as the BH6 goes) in an Antec Sonata. This week I added a WinTV PVR-250 (hardware mpeg2) card to do some video capping. Sadly, this card does not work right in my 7 year old BH6. It works fine in any ot...
