Re: GPU upgrade that's inaudible when idle?
Here's a gpu benchmark for Starcraft II at Techspot . Take a look and see what range of cards you'd like to get. Depending on how you like to set the picture quality and fps you'd like, at 1600x1200, you could go from an HD5750/6750/GTX460 and up. Thanks for that, I'd seen it while back but it is q...

GPU upgrade that's inaudible when idle?
I have a passive HD4670 but I'd like something with just a little more grunt to run StarCraft 2 at max settings on 1600x1200. I have a Nexus RS 120mm top fan controlled by my mobo acting as an exhaust and cooling the CPU HS. The fan ramps up if the CPU gets hot, which is never. I have a 120mm rear f...

Re: Ninja SNCJ-1000 for socket 1155 with Noctua backplate -
Hi kater, I just stumbled across this and I was in the same boat very recently! I ran an original Ninja passively on my e4300 (I actually got it as a review model for a site I used to review HSs for). Couldn't find anything to compare with the Ninja's wide fin spacing bar that crazy Thermalright mon...

Desktop calendar suggestions
I've been using Mozilla Sunbird for years but it's been giving my grief (keeps completely wiping my calendar file!) and has long been out of support. I loved the idea of Google Calendar and syncing so I can access it on my Android phone but I like to have my desktop calendar full-screen on my second...

Thermalright HR-01 on LGA 1156
So apparently even though the Thermalright website doesn't specify this, the Socket 1156 Bolt-Thru-Kit works with the HR-01?
What about the Rev.B version?
Lastly, do the same rules apply to both the original and the Plus version?

Re: Heatsink performance - direct mounted fan vs case fan pr
The HR-01, TRUE etc. don't fit LGA 1155/1156, and the bracket that was made for it seems to have been pulled as I can't get it anywhere. The sceptic in my is thinking Thermalright have pulled this, forcing people to upgrade. Looks like the HR-02 might be my best bet then, thanks. Wonder if SPCR have...

Heatsink performance - direct mounted fan vs case fan proxy
I've just purchased some upgrades, including a TRUE 120 Rev.C based on SPCR finding it to perform the best of all current heatsinks with a Nexus RS 120mm @ 5v strapped on. Obviously the 1/2C difference between it and its closest competitors is probably close enough to be within the margin of error. ...

NZXT H2 reviewed @ Tech Report - P180-a-like
NZXT H2 review Blatant P180 copy, though IMO they fixed the biggest issue - power button on top, not behind the door! USB etc. on top also. Hidden external HDD dock is very cool :) Case dampening won't be as effective as Antec's specialised panels. Also available in white , which I think I like? :?...

Re: Intel Core i3-2100T & Core i5-2400S Low Power CPUs
Remember that these are better chip samples. It's all good and well saying buy a standard version and under-volt it but there's certainly no guarantee they'll all go down to this level. CPUs are not all created equal. What's more, as others have said, it may be possible to push these cherry-picked s...

Re: Intel Core i3-2100 vs. AMD Phenom II X2 565
Would have loved to see how the new i3 compared with older CPUs that people might be considering upgrading from. My e4300 is getting a bit long in the tooth and it would be nice to know that I can get a massive performance boost whilst also not taking a heat/power consumption hit. Obviously I unders...

Hmm, on a performance/$ basis, maybe. But to get the quietest I really don't mind paying more. Even double the price if we're only talking about fans.MikeK wrote:[*]The leader fans all cost more than the Nexus so we can still call it king.

For an external backup solution I searched long and hard for a 2.5" enclosure that actually had a power switch! Another solution you might consider is a USB hub with independent power switches for its ports, like this , this , or perhaps this (if you can find one). That's pretty neat! Would never h...

Great
X-Bit rate this Synology DS210j. Seems to have good performance and is around the £150 pricepoint with no drives.
Should I get another F1 500GB so I have identical drives for RAID1?
Lastly, do most NAS drives let you back up to an external USB drive easily?

Gigabit LAN is usually at 30-80MB/s speed range, depending on many factors (but most times it is closer to those 30MB/s than 80MB/s). So it is slower than most HDD's. OK, that should still be plenty enough for accessing photos and music then. I can copy files to the SSD temporarily if I need to edi...

How realistic is a NAS for main storage?
I've just bought a 64GB SSD and I'm hoping to put my existing 500GB SATA drive in a NAS for storage and add another identical drive for mirrored backup. On the NAS I'll keep photos, music etc. My reasons for wanting a NAS in order are: centralised storage for all computers; the security of a mirrore...

Just ordered an SSD, how should I configure storage drive?
Just ordered myself a 64GB Crucial C300 :) While I do do work and play the occasional game on the PC, 90% of the time I just browse the web and occasionally listen to music while I do so. My 500GB F1 will now be my storage drive and it's pretty much the only noise source in my PC. So how should I ma...
