Hello: The fan should be horizontal, blowing upwards. Somehow, this seems to be the obvious way to go, and one wonders why they put the fan in the way they did? I wondered at first, but air must go through fins and this vertical position forces that. I am not sure how useful will be those heatpipes...

kloppe definitely has the cheapest method so far :) I bet mine is cheaper ;) (only cord needed) link to my blog (they don't like direct links to images). I can make more photos if you want. Tibors, how did you remove the drive cage? No cutting? I also removed the drive cage, with a screwdriver :)

oops, I didn't notice this post, sorry. but I understood that China Seagates were quieter than Singapore's If you read my original post, you will see that I refer to ONE sample of the China 7200.7 which is super quiet. I want to find out whether this is normal; I never said they were generally quiet...

I did mean that IMO harddisks need air intake. Opinions vary on this subject though so others might feel different. Taking air in through the bottom of the case (which was what I meant) is just a possible idea, there are others of course. It all depends on what you want to achieve and how much time...

So I suspect that all 7200.7 SATA used to fall under the 7200.7 Plus families and were previously listed with them on Seagate's spec pages. But now they seem to have redefined the models to match the above 4 model names. . . Well at least not here in Sweden. 7200.7 Plus have always been IDE with 8 ...

Teejays suggestion is you intake air from the bottom instead of the floppy so that no front openings are left a front vertical opening? or "bottom" like in ...

Is that the standard Zalman fan that came with the 6000 cpu cooler? If so you could swap it for a quieter model, e.g. a Nexus ok, that's easy, but will only do that if that fan is the noisest of the system. Get the cpu fan more "in line" with the airflow direction (front to back) I don't understand...
