So does this make the Intel Atom 330 (dual core 1.6Ghz) the lowest power consumption x86 processor that could play 1080p H264 movies in software (without GPU acceleration)?

Someone mentioned that the single core 1.6Ghz atoms stutter while playing even 720p videos.

Media Player Classic Homecinema. I reinstalled it after installing directX runtimes and it started to use the gfx card acceleration and was quiet on playback. I had other issues with the macbook in bootcamp so I opt'd to return it.

Hi RedAE102, Thanks for the detailed reply. After I had posted that message, I found out that I can install OS X without bootcamp and that did bump up my performance numbers a bit. I was able to playback 1080p without the fans running high using MPC. Though even without the bootcamp layer, my SSD pe...

I wonder how much hotter the GPU will be when it's OC'd (even though it has a newer heatsink). EDIT: Essentially the same as the G-E. "The only differences between the GF9300-G-E and the GF9300-I-E are that the GF9300-I-E features an overclocked GPU and a redesigned northbridge heatsink." http://www...

13" Macbook Pro 2.53Gz Too Loud

Hi, I bought a Macbook Pro on Black Friday thinking it'd be a good system for a basic home machine. The most demanding task would be to play 1080p movies. I've installed Windows 7 on it and set the power settings on power saver. I then tweaked the power settings, so that it will ramp down the cpu as...

Modern mATX Recommendations

Hey, I'm looking to build a new system since my Athlon 3800+ is showing it's age. My goal is to have a small footprint desktop, yet still have the power to play blu-rays/HD content and I'm value conscious. I'm thinking of getting a quad core Athlon II X4. With that in mind, I think the only componen...

I'm curious how quiet the new mac minis are, esp compared to SPR built PCs. Right now the loudest thing in my PC when it's idle is the WD Green Power HD. 99% of the time my PC isn't loaded so speedfan doesn't ramp up the fan speeds.

At the end of the article, Anandtech seems to imply that the 780G has a better performance/watt ratio. Still waiting for the last part of their review between the 3 chipsets before I make my purchase.

So far it does look like the 780G chipset boards are the best HTPC boards around. I wonder if 790GX microatx boards will be any better (as they are also supposed to support full...

WD5000AAKS idle is annoying louder than a Samsung P120 250GB. There's some kinda high frequency whine. However, the WD's seek is MUCH quieter than the P120, even with AA off. With AA on MAX, it's very very quiet. I went back to the P120 since I need quiet idles and don't mind loud seeks. HDtune test...

I'm mostly concerned with idle noise so I turn off AAM. Also the SP2504C (P120/250GB/SATA/8MB) came with AAM disabled by default. Normal CPU Temps: Winchester & MSI Neo2 Platinum

Hi there, I recently built a new system with a Winchester 3200+ and a MSI Neo2 Platinum mobo. I was wondering what temperatures should I expect to see while idle & full load using the temperatures reported by speedfan/bios? On the AMD page it says the maximum case temp for this chip is 65C. What's a...

Even at 66% it's still a lot quieter than the default fan of 1.4 and 1.6s. It could be quieter though. I could redo the arctic silver mod though...cuz I didn't use arctic silver and only used the compound that came with the zalman heatsinks. I'm not sure if that is that much worse than arctic silver.
