Nope. The memory and wifi slots are mounted directly on the underside of the MB and would be in the way for a heat pad covering the whole MB.

Re: Cheap 13.3" Atom laptop - but can the noise be reduced ?

Yes, thick thermal pad. I guess I could have used some wider copper shims (maybe even one piece covering both cpu/chipset), but it would also reduce the limited space for airflow. I don't think there is a pad under the motherboard (not quite sure what you mean)

Re: Cheap 13.3" Atom laptop - but can the noise be reduced ?

I totally agree that the cooling system is bizarre at best. Basically the laptop is so flat (I guess the designers wanted too achieve Airbook thickness), that there is no room for a heatsink (the distance between the motherboard and metalshield with the keyboad directly on top is only appr. 3 mm - i...

Cheap 13.3" Atom laptop - but can the noise be reduced ?

Degee 13.3" Atom 455 laptop can be obtained for as low as $250-300. It is a nice looking, slim white laptop/netbook with surprisingly good quality and performance. It has a nice, big 13.3" screen, a somewhat limited battery time, BUT IT HAS ONE MAJOR FLAW: The cooling fan/solution is unbearable nois...

Here is my solution for better airflow in the Antec NSK1380. I am considering adding an additional hole/fan in the side for the graphics card, but I am unsure if it should suck in or vent out the air ? http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/183069_1816819347776_1458882863_32003325_3278193_n....

I am not quite sure how much power I can draw from the picoPSU-120 12V rail ? The specs says that it is "switched input", but does that mean that it is direct feed from the 12V adapter ? If so, does that mean that if I use a 12V 200W adapter, I could draw 12-15A. Why does the specs say 7-10A max the...

Hi Peerke. Yes, it is about the size of ATX, 320 x 220 x 60 mm.
Here is an idea for another approach in the very early stage (300 x 250 x 45 mm).

Folding the long PCI-E*16 flex cable will be a neat Origami trick ...

Thanks Aris and Peerke, I think you are absolutely spot on with your observations. Having tried this earlier (with XP-M and Turion), I would like to add that I think that the main problem is that you have to do custom work/adjustments to pretty much everything, you can only use certain parts and you...

Building the smallest, yet most powerful gaming PC possible

I think it could be interesting to build the smallest, yet most powerfull gaming PC possible. It would include a Commell LV-677 Intel Core 2 Duo (Merom) Mini-ITX express Motherboard (170 x 170 mm) with an Intel Core 2 Duo T7X00 (Merom - power consumption 34 W). This is the only Core 2 Duo Mini-ITX m...

Which Motherboard for Core Duo 2 Conroe and DDR 400 ?

I have just bought a Core Duo 2 Conroe E6400 (my first Intel proc), but would like to reuse my 2 GB DDR 400 (PC 3200) memory. Hi Ekjk, Thank you for your answer. I killed 3 Asus A8N-VM boards (probably the MOSFETS) by plugging/unplugging a "hot" AC adapter into to the PW-200, before I figured out that this caused it. :D The KA7500C undervolting mod works perfectly. One (5 cents) 270K resistor betwen pin 1 and pin 12 and Vcore is down 0.3 V (from 1.58 V to 1.28 V) and temps down 7 degrees (and everything is stable). Tests show that there is a nice linear correspondance between Vcore and the resistor value: Vcore ...

Lowering Vcore on MOBOs without bios Vcore control

Is it possible to lower 1,58V default Vcore to 1,35V (true XP-M 2400+ 35W Vcore) using some simple mod (for the KA7500C SMPS controller) on KM400 Flex-ATX motherboards, like PCCHIPS M851LU, Matsonic MS8188E, Shuttle MK40VN ? Reason ? I think the following picture explains it all ! http://www.sitecen...
