How did you find they compared thermally? Did you try identical systems in both? I did try identical systems (moved my main rig from the 3000 to the Solo) but I can't remember the temps from before to compare with after, so not really sure what one is better in terms of temps. I guess the Solo/ P15...

Cool, Ill do that. I actually prefer my 3000B to the P150, its a bit roomier to work in, it looks pretty good and im not terrified of scratching it like the glossy P150. The P150 HD bays are great though, pull out the ones you dont need for great airflow and they absorb vibration wondefully. If it ...

The Freezer 7 might be noisy on a Prescott at full load, with that budget you can buy something better but hopefully it wouldn't be more noisy than the cooler that came with the cpu..? if Hitman's primary goal is to bring down the temps, he may find he doesn't even need to buy a new cpu heatink (if...

what are your goals? I assume you are looking for a reasonably quiet cpu cooler, seeing as you are posting here on silent pc review? there are a range of options, depending on how much you are willing to spend. arctic cooling make some coolers that are reasonably quiet and excellent value for money.

Do the Core 2 Duo cpus or their chipsets have a Cool n Quiet or Speedstep style feature to reduce power consumption at idle?

Seems like an AMd X2 would be a more environmentally friendly (as in, use less energy) choice for a jukebox or htpc if it is going to be left on 24 hours a day (as mine are)..?

The fan frame on the Alpine 7 does protrude past the heatsink itself, but it's hard for me to tell just how close it gets to the edge of the mobo, or if it would get in the way of the PSU wires coming down through the hole in the upper chamber of the case. Stick with a single 2.5 inch drive, use 2 Gig of memory, and switch to Vista (when released) using the ReadyBoost caching technology with a 1 or 2 gig flash memory USB 2.0 key.

Should be much quieter, but it's not. It's about twice as loud. The seek is MUCH louder, and the idle is about twice as loud with a more 'gritty' and forced air quality than the two Barracudas. is there any credence to the notion that drives can take a little time to "burn in" - and may start off s...
