Re: Super Efficient Cars [very large pictures]

Neil, you know that you will be able to do aerodynamic testing FAR better in the CAD realm, right? And I bet making that mock up wasn't too quick either!! What is the end game with relation to this design? IE, when you are happy with the design, then what happens? Have you seen the VW concept that i...

Re: Unlocked Sandy Bridge Dual Core; 2120K

Well, i guess we will see on the OC front. I find it interesting from the other side of things too.. passive operation late at night ..still with the possibility of turning on the fans and OC'ing the hell out of it. What I am really hoping for is an unlocked dual core Ivy Bridge with the HD3000 repl...

You really can't beat a pair of second hand speakers and a new class D amplifier. You are really pushing the boundaries at that budget to get good sound.. i'm not 100% sure on US prices but I would see if you can get something like a pair of B&W 601 s1 's (ebay, or one of the hifi sites which have t...

Re: Any Fanless AMD systems??

Nice to see some interest in this topic. HFat; mine is a Palermo Sempron (desktop/s754/90nm). It is quite funny really because at the time the 2600+/2800+ which didn't have CnQ (or a mobile CPU) could accept lower voltages.. and this still maxes ~60*C at full load. I should probably buy a 2800/2600+...

Update

Brought this out of retirement a few months back... u'd think sempron754 + ninja + picopsu + onboard gfx could be done quite easily with no fans eh? Turns out, a ninja is complete overkill. Added an AC Freezer 7, and a pico psu (120w)+ Dell 150w power brick; the fan is no longer required. The HDD wa...

Any Fanless AMD systems??

I have been hoping to replace my 0 fan sempron 3000+ system so am looking for something cheap and able to go fanless, with a less than rediculous heatsink (read: orochi). I have seen 0 fan C2D systems, and core iX if underclocked... but what about the AMD side?? Putting upgrade paths (and atom) asid...

Perhaps it doesn't interest you.. or the HDDs are the bigger problem.. but i can't help thinking this really should be able to run fanless. My 0 fan semrpon 3000+ doesn't go over 60*C when stress testing.. and that is a) 90 nm b) with a Freezer 7- which is at most half the volume of your cooler. c) ...

Re: Intel Haswell CPU - a Quantum Jump in CPU Performance?

Intel is claiming that they have caught up with ARM in energy usage... using a full fledged CPU. No, no they aren't. If tri-gate were applied to atom, and there was some die shrinking going on, then atom may be similar to ARM power-wise. Here is the first article you should read - particularly the ...

So.. you measure it on the back of the motherboard? or how??

It spat it's dummy out with an old PCI wifi card (no boot).. is this indicitive of anything or do old PCI cards not work with newer boards?

It seems 3200/4200/4250 can almost do 24p, missingremote clocked it at 23.969 fps (cf. 23.976). No HDMI audio though.. and 'not quite' can be almost as annoying as 'not' (FWIW i couldn't ever get it working properly on my 4770 either). It seems only nvidia's 8200/8300 properly supports 24p in the IGP world.. there don't seem to be (m)any for AM3? The reason I was hoping for AM3+ support was because i'd like a 32nm upgrade path in the future. Whilst there are 2/4 core cpus with the same TDP, i doubt very much they will output the s...

Using another brick is a possibility, but i'd prefer not to as it may require some cutting.. but, i don't see how it could be the brick, as it powers a greater total load on the old system, and it has been very reliable in doing so?? Re: Can a PicoPSU power this PC?

Dear OP, It should run OK. I have a very similar system, and it pulls ~60w from the wall full load. And that is a 3000+, and overclocked 11% to 2GHz. And a 3.5" HDD. And remember that an 80W PSU can *output* 80w, not draw 80w from the wall. The only thing that may reduce my power draw compared to y...

Nice project, I would have liked to hear a little more about the external finish, it looks nice. new system not working w/ pico PSU.. despite lower power

I have recently aquired an i3-530. The system draws similar/less power than my old sempron system which my picopsu 120, with dell 150W brick, has been powering for some time without issue, but it will not boot, and the hard drive power cuts out. The i3 system works fine with an ATX PSU.

Any ideas???

I thought only the i3 chipsets were locked? Oh, I see, you mean OC'ing the graphics chipsets Nope. Everything but a K can only be overclocked 4 bumps (400mhz) above its turbo frequency. AFAICT this 'overclocking' is just use and extension of the turbo mode, and the default clock remains. i3's, AFAI...
