I get a bit of buzz on my BFG 8800 GTS but only when the monitor is off. Overall I would say it's very quiet. I have a seasonic PSU and ninja HS now but I still really can't hear it at idle. Really the only thing I hear in my system is the Seagate hard drive (whisper quiet at first but became more a...

I can't imagine a CNPS7000 cooling any better than the stock heatsink. yeah, probably. i was guessing it would be cooler because I get those kinds of temps on an old p3.2 with said HS and that runs a lot hotter with its stock HS than my e6600. in any case, those temps actually seemed reasonable to ...

I have an e6600 with a stock fan/hs. It's silent enough at low RPM but once it starts jacking up it gets loud. Every other fan in the system is quiet including the one in my BFG 8800GTS.

That said once you get everything almost perfectly silent the hard drive starts making sound as it ages :D

e6600 + p5b Deluxe with the side off I get ~44C idle with q-fan set to silent (~900-1100 rpm). It ramps up fast to 1400-2000 (very audible) and 60C+ so I've decided I need to get something like the CNPS7000-ALCU I have in my old p4 (quiet even at 2000RPM)

EDIT: wow that sig is old :D

I replaced the seagate with a new maxtor then switched the 9700 for an x800 pro. no luck. so then I replaced the x800 with an old ati and then geforce mx. nope. unplugged the dvd writer. nope. the p4p800 SE is the only component that didn't change. So I moved my computer 10 feet away using a wireles...

"which suggests it might also have something to do with how hot the system gets " I had noticed it was occuring more when the power ramped up. My hypothesis: it's contingent on inadequate fan speed in the power supply. I haven't had any coil whine since I turned it up to ~1000rpm, but that could be ...

... And you should consider that 6800 series is already becoming widely available while ATI still struggles to put any of its new cards on the market. ... I'm finding the opposite is true here. Called around and found the 6800's backordered until at least beginning of august, some middle of august,...

well it's a lot quieter than the antec that came with my case. It might be useful to ask how often people experience coil whine because when I said I experience it "sometimes" I should have said it's relatively rare. I'll have to check whether or not it's related to a ramping up in power (like when ...

there's a huge difference between low and high fan control setting on mine... ~730 versus ~1500rpm.

but I do sometimes get coil whine, or whatever it's called

noisetaker 475 psu, definitely coming from that

didn't hear it when I had a generic pci ati rage card in it, but it started after I put a radeon 9700 pro in.

if there aren't too many "sensitive" files and you know where they are you could just use "file shredder": http://www.gregorybraun.com/Shredder.html it uses the "NSA file erasure algorithm". then format normally. would save a lot of time. (just remember to turn off "log all operations to a disk file...

i'm new here myself (i) might want to make sure the hard drives are silent. are the wd and maxtor you're considering nearly as quiet as a hitachi or seagate? bought a new system and the cheap 160gb 7200 seagate in it is very silent (when not seeking, anyway, would need an enclosure to make that go a...
