Venturing into the Small Form Factor

I just ordered the AOpen EZ18 to replace my Antec-Biostar system. I wanted to check out the SFF anyway and it seemed like the EZ18 is a well recommended entry-level socket A barebone. I also made a bad decision. Well the system that it will replace has a weird Samsung Spinpoint ( this Tech Support F...

I had the G4 800MHz iBook and it was quiet too. My only gripe with it was that the G4 didn't feel sufficient enough to power OS X Panther, thus I sold it a month after I purchased it.

Looks like you're looking for a case that can fit a 120mm front and back.

As for those three cases on your list, you could go ahead and pick one and then mod it to suit your needs.

I sealed off the side vents so I can run the exhaust fans to pull air from the front bezel. Compared to the 3700AMB/BQE, these cases are tight on space. It wasn't easy to get a mATX mobo to slide into position without bumping on the cages etc. Don't think I'll ever want to squeeze an ATX in there. I...

It's basically the same stuff except the exhaust fan opening, included PSU and included fan. IIRC the CS200 doesn't come with HDD cages that fit those rubber grommet stuff seen in th...

Unlocked Thoroughbreds are rare, you're better off with an XP-M, and undervolt/clock that sucker for the lowest heat dissipation possible. I give this one to Samsung. The overall volume level of the SpinPoint's idle sound is noticeably lower than that of the Seagate's, and that's not counting the characteristics of the noise. The type of sound emitted by the Samsung is also less obtrusive than that of the Seagate, as is the fact that ...

If it's not vibration then it's the motor and the only inexpensive way I can think of is to buy a silent HDD (Samsung Spinpoint) and sell the Maxtor to make up for the cost. Nevertheless, you should try suspending the HDDs (sewing elastic is like $1-2).

What PSU are you using? Also you mention that the extra heat is forcing you to increase CPU fan speed. You should increase the speed of your exhaust fans instead. You don't have to worry about the Seasonic ST fan ramping up if your exhaust can get rid of system heat efficiently (provided you don't run too many components off it). Building a CPU exhaust duct would surely help keep case temps down.

Stick it ATX, nothing's wrong with it. I'd rather have the CPU be one of the last components the airflow reaches as they're made to handle higher temperatures. Having the CPU preheat the air fbefore it goes to the GPU and RAM isn't ideal for me.

2-3°C decrease for 52 watts??? Two 80mm fans at 4600RPM can get temps lower when applied correctly. The airflow path of both fans looks like a tight squeeze and it resembles a PSU with an ugly plastic finish.
