If it's not vibration then it's the motor and the only inexpensive way I can think of is to buy a silent HDD (Samsung Spinpoint) and sell the Maxtor to make up for the cost. Nevertheless, you should try suspending the HDDs (sewing elastic is like $1-2).

You could cut a hole in the nice Minuet and build an exhaust duct from there. Use an Alpha for the heatsink. Then again, the Minuet's finish looks too damm nice to be cut/sawed/drilled/dremelled through XD. Ideally, a side blowing heatsink like those mini heatpipe towers would work best in the Minue...

You don't have to worry about the Seasonic ST fan ramping up if your exhaust can get rid of system heat efficiently (provided you don't run too many components off it). Building a CPU exhaust duct would surely help keep case temps down.

Stick it ATX, nothing's wrong with it. I'd rather have the CPU be one of the last components the airflow reaches as they're made to handle higher temperatures. Having the CPU preheat the air fbefore it goes to the GPU and RAM isn't ideal for me.

Curious on how hot the G5 will get. I remember reading somewhere that Apple needed to reduce the heat and power requirements in order to use the G5 in their powerbooks.

2-3°C decrease for 52 watts??? Two 80mm fans at 4600RPM can get temps lower when applied correctly. The airflow path of both fans looks like a tight squeeze and it resembles a PSU with an ugly plastic finish.
