Zalman VF900 modded with a 80x25 Scythe DF - Updated, Photos
Just got in a VF900 today for my 7600GT vivo. I went ahead and ordered a Young Lin 80x25mm along with it. Before I started hacking it in, I thought it would be prudent to see if anyone here has already done the 80x25 mod. If so, show off your work/technique! Thanks :) Edit: Thread title changed from...

Oh, the nitpicking lol. But hey, it lead to improvement before. Sure, ogg is great. Though I prefer lossless myself, ogg is right up there in my book. I listen to classical music and hear, personally the disadvantages of lower bitrate mp3s...but 128bit mp3 for _noise_ is certainly sufficent. And yea...

Hey, thanks for mentioning nTune and the issues you've had with it. Thought about hunting down this app before, but never bothered since I have a VF-900 enroute. ---- Well, I'm happy to report I am once again wrong lol. The fan will ramp down upon nvidia proprietary linux driver installation! :D Jus...

Welcome to SPCR Brians256 :) Yeah, know what you mean about ProCooling. A shame really. :? Things seem to be getting better to some extent though, right? Isn't Cather back? What's BillA's status? No problem, it was half tounge-and-cheek anyway. :) Ah, that's right, it's winter down there right now. Grrr, makes me envious lol. I've started getting into alpine snowboarding the past couple of years, and I'm already craving snow lol. Not sure where I could pick up the 90mm YL in NA. The Scythe D...

Uhh, don't ever again mention Thermaltake in the same category as Thermalright   Your probably correct though in that a TT with a higher rpm 120mm has more cooling potential than a TR Si-97 with a higher rpm 92mm. I'll probably just get a Si-97A and pair it with a Scythe DS 2000rpm. Shoul...

Well, last night I installed a copy of Ubuntu 6.06 and the latest nvidia driver via Synaptic...the vga's fan didn't ramp down like it did in WinOS. :? It certainly could be me though. Not sure how it compares to the nvidia reference cooler As for the noise level, let me put it this way. I'm in the process of setting up a new machine. The vga bios slows the 7600GT's fan down somewhat a few seconds after the inital full-tilt rpm at boot-up, but it didn't slow down to its quietest l...

Well, it turns out I was only sort-of correct. :? I'm in the process of setting up a new machine. The vga bios slows the 7600GT's fan down somewhat a few seconds after the inital full-tilt rpm at boot-up, but it didn't slow down to its quietest level (which isn't very quiet really*) until I installe...

Would it be possible to have a version where you could blow air through the heatsink? Something like a Thermalright HR-01 meet Condor. Thermalright HR-01, with the HR-05 chipset cooler. You're going for a ThermoChill, right? Just making sure. :) What pump are you going for? What case you you going to be using? You should need more than one in a WCed rig. If all fans @ 5v are insufficent, you could run them as pairs in series rather than in parallel to give them 6v. Just some though...

Reversing the vga fan's wires OK? MSI 7600GT VIVO
Hey, I have an MSI NX7600GT VT2D256E (like this ). Unfortunatly the fan pulls the air from the outside of the case and dumps the hot air into the case - right where my harddrives are. They got hot to the touch, which really scared me. Sure hope I didn't compromise them. I'm going to be replacing thi...

Glad it's working so well for you. Wish I could say the same about my MSI 7600GT VIVO lol. Wanted to point out the vga bios is the controller, not an OS driver, just so those using alternative OSes don't have anything to worry about (myself included). Best SocketA Heatsink -- Still the Thermalright Si-97?
Hey, I'm scraping together a SocketA machine around an XP-M I got. This particular XP-M should give me ~2.6GHz, so I want a heatsink to match -- but also give me the required quietness. I currently have a Si-97 in a stock 2600+ rig of mine, and I love it. I know there's even better aircooling out th...

I have an MSI NX7600GT VT2D256E (like this ). I don't know how much of a spcr, quiet/silent geek you are, but to me my MSI cooler is loud . Well, I've been in this game for a while now, and I remember when we were putting chipset coolers on vidcards... so I just thought that you could potentially do the opposite nowadays. :) Not in-the-know about the VF900 really. It doesn't exist. You can get a high CFM that will dial down to quieter levels, but not quiet and definitly not silent.Happy Hopping wrote:So there is something that can do the same cfm, and silence, I'll go for it.
Why do you need all this CFM? Trying to take a dually to 2.7GHz on air or something?
