Re: Silverstone GD05

Lsv wrote:As for intake/exhaust setup definitely use 2 fans in and 1 fan out.
The default is all pointing in. I would think it would make more sense to have the two fans closest to the CPU pulling air out - no?

Should the Scythe Ninja's fan be pointed down or up?

Silverstone GD05

Just picked this up for a new build. Two questions: - should the fans on both sides be pointed to push air out of the case? - should I replace the fans? I have three Zalman fanmates. System will be in a closed Salamander Twin cabinet with the back open -will have an xbox360, ps3, and comcast box - n...

Re: PSU choice for new build?

The depth measurement is for the PSU case. Same for both the LZW and AP. So, you'd need clearance for the cables, too. What about the GD05 ? The GD05 has the exact same layout and is actually less deep overall (12.79" vs. 13.39"), so I can't imagine it being any better. Besides, I rather like the f...

Re: PSU choice for new build?

Firstly, what's the differencce between the Kingwin Absolute Platinum and the Lazer Platinum ? I'm really interested in the low wattage, no-fan-movement feature, and I think I'm willing to pay the extra for it. Seconly is depth. According to newegg, the depth of the LZW-550 is 6.69" (169.9mm). Is th...

Re: PSU choice for new build?

Barring constant load, this rig should spend most of it's time closer to drawing 40W than 120W. The Kingwin Platinum 550W is very unusal in being efficient at low wattages. The 650W is probably not as good but hopefully it's almost as good. So firstly, I'm really having a hard time not just buying ...

Replacing a set of four of these in the coming weeks and was always curious how they might perform in a RAID setup. Looks like they're not worth holding onto!

Re: Smallest Micro ATX case/psu

The Silverstone Temjin TJ-08E seems to fit your needs. I'd recommend a Cooler Master 341 if not for the lack of mounts for harddisks. The construction is barely acceptable, but room for four 120 mm fans ensures good thermal potential. Perhaps look at some of the other Cooler Master Elite micro-ATX ...

Re: Smallest Micro ATX case/psu

Of that list, I think my favorite is from Lan Gear. Do they sell them anywhere in the US? Don't appear to. I've emailed them. I've been reading reviews of the Lian Li's on newegg and am a bit iffy on which one is best. My options, due to dimensions, are between the 351, 352, and 353. Another possibi...

Smallest Micro ATX case/psu

Just bought an ivy bridge rig and am shopping for a new case, power supply, and CPU cooler. I've lived with a full size P182 for years not and am taking the plunge on a smaller box because I'm moving to a tiny apartment next month. I was going to go with mini ITX, but there's not a whole lot of z77 ...

New condo = new, smaller PC

My girlfriend and I have rented out a new condo. Moving to it means changing my huge workspace room with a nice big Ikea desk to a tiny little area on the wall in our new living room. So the smaller the better. I have to power 2x Dell U2410's, 3x 3.5" hard drives, and 2x SSDs. I'm OK with the SSDs j...

Quiet?

Just bought four 2504c's - looking to just use them standalone right now, but was planning on a raid once i move to sata2, 3.0gb/s. I'm a bit disapointed with the seek noise this drive produces. I have had seagate's all my life - mostly 7200.7's, and recently a 7200.8. I currently have my case open ...

Unfortunately, their A64 platforms all use the little slim fan-cooled internal PSU which is very difficult to get below a certain level of quiet -- and it tends to ramp up underload. We measured the min noise level in the SN95G5 to be 27dBA @ 1m. Is it under general agreement that this is the quiet...

Curious about the AOpen Aeolus 6800GT...is that a standard 3-pin fan connector coming off the videocard's fan? I don't typically see that on videocards. Any other way to go ab...

REQ: The Ultimate "quiet" SFF (for me anyway...)

OK - I've been making trips around and around in circles for about a week now trying to come up with a new SFF computer I'd like to put together. Here's my needs: 1. Silent (or close to it) in an SFF size - I'm picky but not THAT picky. My current "quiet" system has 3x 120mm nexus fans with zalman f...

Sure enough - if I unplug all the external devices and a single HD (not necessarily the new SATA - tried one of the PATAs as well), the computer boots just fine every time.

Sounds to me like I need to get the 430w?

Will try this evening. If that is the problem, would a higher wattage PSU fix it rather than an external enclosure?

There are some other external items hooked up. Would these be drawing power as well?

Re: Power hunger/heat of ATI Radeon 9200-series? - 9250, 920

How about Matrox G550? According to Rokjapot's video card list only the G400's were 128-bit, not to mention that Matrox's cards only support up to DX6 (yikes!). Thanks for the comments about the 9250. Can anyone provide perhaps a comparison of an FX5200 and a 9250/9600? Since we have raw stats on t...

Look at the pictures of the cards you are interested in buying on newegg. The power use will be proportional to the type of heatsink on the card. If it has a small, fanless heatsink, the power output is not high. As the heatsinks get bigger and have fans, the cards are more power hungry. Appreciate...

Power hunger/heat of ATI Radeon 9200-series? - 9250, 9200se

Hi all - been seeing lots and lots of posts about the latest cards and their power needs (and of course, thus the amount of heat they produce - the more heat the more difficulty to silence!) But I'm seeing very little on the 9200-series of ATI cards - just a few random posts here and there about hea...

Just thought I'd throw in my $0.02. I bought my Fortron Aurora 300w as a comparison with my Zalman 300B. This particular PSU has actually been annoying me lately - even with the knob all the way at minimum (5v?), the fan does ramp up in speed when the CPU gets hot (around 48 C). After the system has...

What a great discussion you three have going on here. Could you show some pics!?

Can anyone give a subjective comparison between the EZ18 stock, and a similar stock AMD-based Shuttle - i.e. the SN41G2 or SN45G? It sounds like the EZ18 is a bit more work to get silent than the Shuttle alternative.
