Silent speakers?
Can anyone recommend a pair of silent speakers? Now that I have silenced nearly every cmponent of my PC, I've noticed the speakers make a lot of noise. The noise is most pronounced when I open an MP3 in Winamp, or place a DVD in the DVD drive. I have tried turning the volume knob clockwise, bit that...

Sorry -- I wasn't clear. I don't actually use a rubberized keyboard. I use the new Compaq keyboard, which is a standard keyboard. I haven't really used a rubberized one other than just to try it in the store. I can confirm that they are dead silent, but someone else would have to answer the speed-ty...

I found if I wrapped a small amount of plumbers' tape around the two sides of the metal post that make contact with the little grey plastic slots on the keyboard bed, it reduced the initial "tick" when hitting the spacebar. Takes a bit of trial and error to get the right amount that doesn't make the...

Update on Compaq keyboard
After using it for a bit, I noticed that certain of the longer keys, like "Backspace" and "Shift" had a louder than normal smacking sound when you hit them not exactly in the middle. Happily, I found the source of the noise! If you pry off the key with a knife and look underneath, there is a metal p...

Compaq CPQ105KB
Cross-posting this from one of the other threads, since this thread seems to have more activity... I tried this one on a recommendation from vdorta: http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=317538&pfp=srch1 I picked one up at CompUSA for $20, and it is definitely a lot quieter t...

I am a keyboard nut and have tested practically all the keyboards out there. Almost all of them are mushy, even the MS Bluetooth, but I found one exception, the new Compaq keyboard . Positive and silent unless you are a hard typist, but then it becomes even more positive and solid to the touch in a...

BIOS and temps
I flashed to the latest official bios, 1.2, and the problem goes away somewhat. I am experiencing the problem that others have reported -- the temperatures are ~45c after a warm reboot, but after a cold reboot, they are back at ~62c. I have heard reports that the 1.3.1b BIOS is possibly better, but ...

Removing the stock backplate from the MSI Neo...
I used the recommendation from another board. This is how I did it: 1. Use a hairdryer to slowly heat up the backplate. 2. At the same time, slowly work a thin piece of plastic under the plate starting at one of the corners and working around the plate and towards the center. 3. Eventually you shoul...

Pmi 1GB (512MBx2) DDR PC-3200, PMI3200-1024DPH (2.5-3-3-7) I would get some higher quality memory such as Corsair, Crucial, Kingston, or Mushkin. Thanks for the tip, Andrew. I was wondering whether PMI was a good name or not. This memory seems to get glowing reviews: Corsair TWINX1024-3200C2PT, and...

Out of curiosity, does anybody know if there is a difference between the Panaflo FBA08A12L1A and FBA08A12L, or is it just a typo on the part of the stores that carry the FBA08A12L? Thanks! Found the answer to my own question here: http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=8384&highlight=fba0...

Although, I would consider going with the AlCu version of the Zalman 7000. There have been little evidence to support that the Cu version is significantly cooler, andI would rather avoid the increased weight. Hey Mark, thanks for the tip! I had read a review that suggested a 2-3 degree difference b...
