Re: Weird Hush modification

When it sits on a lower shelve, you don't see the fan. It's still far enough in the back. I'm afraid that creating new aluminum blocks that actually fit is more than my DIY skills would allow. For this setup I would then also need to move (as in tap new screw holes) the block that attaches the heatp...

Weird Hush modification

For the last 2.5 years I have used an Asus Eeebox ( 4) Eee Box B202 | N270 | Vertex 32GB ) for my daily computing. Over time the fan in that computer has become louder. So it was time to build a more quiet system. When looking at the pile of computer parts I have, I noticed that I didn't even have t...

Looking at the second picture in the review they obviously have at least one Noctua fan. According to this review http://www.silentpcreview.com/Noctua_NH-L12, it performs worse than the Nexus fan.

Re: Quite, small performance build

The reason I wanted a GPU was so that I could have dual monitor support, so have it hooked to my pc monitor and Sony LCD without the hassle of going behind the computer unplugging leads etc. If you look at the specs of the Intel® Desktop Boards Media Series , then at least the mobo's which start wi...

I must be getting old. Then again 2003 is a long time ago, when silencing your PC was still a craft, in stead of picking the right components. In case vatan007 still wants to know what it is (at least was): http://www.silentpcreview.com/AcoustiPack_delux.

1 . What exactly is that ‘acoustipack’ dampening material? Is it the egg shaped foam? Or is it something else? If it is foam, I know where to get it. However, if it is something specific, I hope you guys know about some alternative since I can’t find any place in the Netherlands to buy it. Any alte...

Re: Asus Eee Box B202: An Atom-based mini PC

A while ago I bought an Asus Eee Box B202. Sometime later I swapped the 160GB harddrive for an OCZ Vertex 32GB SSD. And now finally I made it almost completely silent by using something better than Q-fan to control the fan: lm-sensors In Debian/Ubuntu they split lm-sensors into several packages: # a...

Re: FSP300-60GLS mATX PSU: a pictorial & a fan swap

Last month, after five and a half years of daily use (approx. 5 hours a day), the narrow vents near the top of the PSU had become clogged with dust. Consequently something in the PSU fried :( Now I use an Asus Eee Box with an SSD for the light computer work I used to do on this system. 2) P4R800-VM ...

The heatsink is warm, heat radiates. The amount of heat that is radiated by a heatsink in a PC is fairly small. (The big radiator part of a heatsink is <40°C in a typical setup. Almost all heat transport is done by conduction.) The part of that radiation that actually manages to penetrate the plas...

Typical airflow pattern with the 92mm fan on a tower style heatsink in a tower case: Intake -> HD's -> Fan on the heatsink -> heatsink itself -> case exhaust fan or PSU fan The fan on the heatsink is in the airflow before the heatsink itself, the case fan is on the airflow after the heatsink. So the...

If you would put the fan speeds of a typical PSU review in a graph, then you get a flat part and a sloping part. If the temp rises high enough the fan speed stabilises somewhere on the sloping part. With SpeedFan you have to set the temperatures and speeds in a such a way they are on a flat part, be...

AFAIK Q-fan resides in the BIOS. So it is OS independent and less likely to crash. SpeedFan only works when you are logged in into windows. SpeedFan has more possibilities, but a lousy fan hysteresis algorithm.

I've used one of those sunbeam kits (loooong ago). The tubing doesn't create or increase noise in it self, but in your case it might indirectly. Your current setup uses 120mm fans. the sunbeam kit only works with 80mm and 70mm fans, so for the same airflow you will need louder fans. The iner diamete...

I think it is bad to base legislation on temporary public fear. Because if they don't fine those pe...

Some of the newer motherboards offer the option of PWM or DC control on some of their headers. One example is the P5W DH. IIRC, some of the high-end Gigabyte boards also offer this. Sorry if this sounds cynic, but have you attached a scope to the header and then measured the signals that came out o...

  • Parallel at 5V is easier to get. Not all fans start at 5V.
  • In series at 6V blows a little more air.
It's not that one is always better than the other. It's which one fits best to your needs.

Heatpipes are supposed to last several years before enough coolant has diffused out of them to influence their performance.

I would sooner suspect cheap TIM between the chips and the cooler. If the TIM has dried out and has become powder it becomes more hindrance than help.

The mCubed T-balancer BigNG has only four fan channels, but it can measure temp at a max of 10 spots. You can always combine two fans in parallel on one channel. It has enough power for that.

Their site is down at the moment, so I can't linkt to them.

It's not even the difference between retail and OEM versions. Seasonic S12-430 is the name, SS-430HB is the product number. The B at the end of the product number means that it is a retail version.

(This of course assumes the retailer put the right info on it's webpage.)
