Undervolted Sempron 3000 on K8V-MX

Hey guys, havent been around in a while. Just thought Id let you know, Im working on the new build for my car PC. I rely on low power because of power restrictions, not because of noise/cooling restrictions. Anyway, I dont know if Ive got a holy grail processor, or if its standard, but my Sempron is...

So Ive done a bit of searching, and found some info, including that 'interactive pin mod' thing, but theres not much info on undervolting below 1.475v

Im looking at going to 1.2v or even 1.1v, anyone have a link?

Undervolting K7S41GX

Unfortunally this was the only mATX Socket A board availible in my area. Everything on it works fine, but I dont think it has an undervolting option. Ive looked around a bit for a solution, but I really cant find anything. I really need to undervolt this chip. Is there any hackish-way of forcing the...

I've just unscrewed oryginal fan (without removing oryginal heatsink). I have 80mm fan @5V blowing at the heatsink. When underclocked to 400MHz - heatsink is cool to the touch. @800MHz it is hot to the touch, but not burning hot - say 45'C.
Thanks :)

Epia HSF replacement

Does the Epia V series just use a standard chipset heatsink?

It's got a 40mm fan on it and I think it'll drive me nuts. I'm hoping I can swap it out for a passive cooler and just get a 120mm fan blowing over the whole board.

it's an 800mhz processor, so it shouldnt get THAT hot

Hard drive mounting in high-shock areas

Although not directly silent PC question, I couldnt think of a better place to ask. Using fairly stiff 4-way elastic mounting on a laptop HD, with a solid inch of clearance in every direction, will it survive the shocks and vibration of being mounted in a car trunk? Something like this: ..\..../.. ....

THe case would have to get smashed pretty hard to slip the drives out, hard enough that it would wreck any hard-mounted drive.

As for transporting the case, it's probably best to remove the drives first.

Request for future PSU reviews

Call me lazy, but I wouldnt mind seeing a 'leak' voltage column in the stats for the PSUs.

I know I just have to subtract the output from the input, but its a lot easier to see when it's all laid out with the other numbers :)

Yep, you can.

And it seems to have worked.

Took the 2D voltage down by .1v, and underclocked it to 100/500

In 3D it runs at stock.

It's running 6C cooler now.

Power converters on power poles use massive toroids, they're cooled only with heatsinks drowned in a heat conductive oil.

They put through tens of thousands of watts, if their effiency wasnt above 95% they would explode.

I'm using 1.8mm stretch magic. A little test I did shows 2 strands can support 15 lbs. I'm supporting 2 HDs (probably less than 2lbs) with four strands. I've yet to notice any stretching or hardening, but it's only been running for 2 days this way. I wouldnt expect any, since it's an entirely acryli...

Toroids are extremely efficient, something on the lines of 98%

However, you can't use a Toroid to convert AC to DC :P

Musical amps are generally many times larger than computer PSUs. If you crack one open, you will generally not find a ton more stuff in there than a computer PSU, but you will find huge heatsinks.

The heatsinks in a PSU are only a few dozen CCs, versus hundreds for music amps.
