Re: 2002-2012: A Decade of SPCR

My time and interests have wandered elsewhere over the last few years, but I still come back to keep up with the latest reviews on SPCR. I've learned a lot from this site. Thanks for all the hard work.

Apple IIe bought in 1984 by my parents. They bought the monochrome green screen and a single 5.25 inch floppy drive. Me and my brothers pooled our money together a few months later and bought a copy of Enchanter, a text adventure game from Infocom. Many nights of fun ensued. The computer store had j...

I've had my P150 case with the Neo HE 430 PSU running without a problem for a week now. It has a serial number starting with S0511 and has a slightly torn warranty sticker. I have the PSU hooked up to a MSI K8N Neo4-F motherboard. The motherboard uses the NF4 chipset. I also have a Radeon X800GTO vi...

Don't assume Newegg only has the newer ones. I ordered the P150 case about a month ago. The power supply starts with 0511 which is an older model number. It shipped from the New Jersey warehouse.

Thermalright SI-120

I had no idea this was on the drawing board. It looks like it can cool as well as the XP-120, but is compatible with all Intel P4 and AMD K8 motherboards. It is slightly cheaper and is for sale at the Heatsink Factory.

The 3200+ "Venice" is what I would suggest. It's only like $20 more than the 3000+. I've been tracking the prices for a new computer. The 3200+ is usually $40-$50 more than the 3000+. For those in the US, eWiz has lowered the price of the 3000+ Venice to $119.95. That is the best price I've seen by...

The Yate Loon 92mm fans at tekgems cost $12.99 each. You only get a price break if you buy 25+. You can get a Nexus 92mm fan from Jab-Tech for $12.49 and the shipping should be lower.

Do any NF4 motherboards allow you to undervolt the northbridge chip? That would significantly reduce the temperature, although it might hurt OC attempts.

Take a look at our CES coverage; both, P180 and Sonata II have ducts that pull cool air in from the rear of the case and direct it to the CPU; the ducts are adjustable in three separate directions. I shot photos of all of it. I see a few photos of each case, but there are no pictures of the CPU duc...

I just bought a Super Silencer 400W, but haven't installed it yet. Do you know if this power supply still uses a standard three pin connector for the fan? The original review of the SS400 rev A3 shows a fan connector, but you said Mike soldered the fan to the circuit board. Why did he do that?

Re: Mesured PC Power

Power ( Watts ) = Voltage ( Volts ) * Current ( Amperes ) I don't think you are actually measuring Watts used by your PC. You are measuring the apparent power. This formula only works if the current and voltage are in phase as in a DC circuit. Does your power supply have active power factor correct...

The 2-pin plug should fit on the 3-pin plug on the video card. You just need to figure out which two pins give the proper connection. Do you still have the original fan? If so, try to see how the wires are arranged. I don't know what color wires are used, but most of the time you'll have a red for t...

I noticed in this review that the AC/DC power efficiency was around 70% while the SPCR review shows 75-80%. The PC Perspective review seems well done, but I can't figure out why the efficiencies are so different.
