Perhaps more like each 12V rail is rated at 15A continuous, but not simultaneously? I'm pretty sure I read (Dansdata?) that the seperate 12V rails tend to share components anyway... Probably a lower than 45A rating for the 12V rails in total therefore?

I'm not sure you'll get much joy out of the crossflow fan. The specs seem to be: # Application for CM Stacker # Dimensions 50×50×336mm # Weight 400g # Voltage DC12V # Start Voltage 5V # Current 0.24amp # Speed (4speeds) OFF 0 r.p.m # LOW 1400 r.p.m ( 6.5 V ) # MIDDLE 1800 r.p.m ( 8.5 V ) # HIGH 2500...

I've often wondered about that silenx thingey - what's the point putting heatsinks on the drive sides if you then decide to cover the heatsinks in a box

I wish that included the silentmaxx enclosure, and maybe the smartdrive 2002... And that new Nexus one. Or am I just asking too much

Typical to form (seeing as I just bought some), I stumbled across some sorbothane yesterday after rowing. Someone's made it into a seat pad (to cover the seat in the rowing boat so that your bum gets a comfier ride), then the owner had forgotten about it and left it in a puddle... I'm not sure that ...

Make sure you post up their reply please - this could be exactly what I'm after.

The whole "watercooled" insulation seems pretty bonkers though?

Brilliant - thanks for that link. I clearly haven't been lurking enough since I missed that. I'll post piccies up if I ever finish it, as well as comparing it to my silentmaxx enclosure.

Possible ghetto Zalman heatpipe mod

I previously had my hard disk watercooled on the sides using a custom block I soldered from some copper sheet and copper pipes. This was all wrapped up in magic fleece and I was pretty happy with the low noise levels emitted, while the drive temperatures were great. When I moved back to air cooling ...

I just found this site while looking for some dampening material in the UK. After a quick skim, the SAPT220 on this page looks quite promising. Anyone have any thoughts?

How do I tell which revision my silentmaxx is please? I'm pretty sure my drive temps went up when I installed my disk in the silentmaxx, so I may well have a revision 1. I think I'll stick with the silentmaxx, given the choice. Has anyone tried mounting a large heatsink onto the heatpipe of t...

If you were in the UK, I'd suggest going to a bike shop (of the pedal variety) like a Halfords - they're likely to offer smaller quantities of oils than exclusively car places. A teflon based oil for bikes shouldn't set you back too much, and then you can go on a mission curing squeaky things the wo...

It can be a sign that the bearings/sleeve are/is failing. Try putting a few drops of oil on the motor spindle.

If you're talking about the blue box, I think it's a box of screws fastened there to prevent it bouncing around in transit ;) But your link to the piccie isn't right.

It is common that high current fans are sold with 4 pin headers only. So a fan with a 3 pin header is likely to draw little current, so connecting to the motherboard is usually not a problem. Checking the specification is of course the best things to do. Unfortunately it's not always the case - I o...
