Samsung SM-2232BW annoying buzz / whine
Hi, I'm just posting this to add my Samsung SM-2232BW monitor to the whining / buzzing component list. The buzzing starts when turning the brightness down to about 92-93. At 70 the buzzing reaches its peak and stays that way down to 0 brightness. I find the sound to be very irritating. The buzzing c...

Samsung SM-2232BW annoying buzz / whine
Hi everybody! I'm currently in the middle of a new build and I decided to try out my new monitor on my existing system. The monitor is a Samsung SM-2232BW, which I have read many good reviews about. The first thing I noticed when I powered it up was how incredibly bright it was. After awhile my eyes...

Had some problems understanding your post. I thought the noctua uses a 120mm fan not a 92mm ? I think the gaps on the heatsink are to aid cooling of the motherboard components. believing in reverse cooling, no fan on the heatsink, ductwork. Acheiving static pressure is a challenge. the xp90 meets th...

thejamppa: Thanks for the info on the thermal power and the fan suggestion. bgavin: I hadn't considered the MOSFETs getting too hot. The Abit IP-35E just has regular heatsinks on the northbridge and MOSFETs, but the Abit IP-35 Pro has heat pipes on the chipset and MOSFETs? Would that keep them cool ...

Swapped fan in Akasa PSU concern.
Hi All, A couple of years ago I built a new quiet system with an Akasa PSU. I swapped the original fan for a Nexus fan. The PSU fan is thermally controlled so if the PSU becomes too hot then more voltage will be supplied to the fan to make it spin faster. But you already know that. I recently had a ...

What were your CPU temps with the original Zalman fan on the 7000? They were lower but I can't really be accurate because I have been changing the rear case fan. I think I was running without a rear case fan when I stated 55 degrees (but I had an Acoustifan @ 5v on the front). Before doing the Zalm...

I successfully modded the Zalman heatsink a few days ago. In the end I just used the normal mounting screws instead of trying to decouple the fan from its mount. It is now almost totally silent at 11.5v :) CPU temps are fine, about 55 degrees under continuous load for a few hours on a coolish day. H...

Akasa Amber Series Silent Fans
Hi, Anybody got an opinion on the new Akasa Amber Silent fans I spied on their web site? They look interesting, especially the 120mm. Here are the specs: FAN SPECIFICATION Dim: 120 x 120 x 25mm Rated speed: 1400 RPM Sound: 18.0 dB(A) Air flow: 44.8 CFM Bearing: Twin ball bearing Life expentancy: 80,...

Aren't there a couple of top end aluminium cases that have provision for placing the PSU at the bottom of the case? Situating the PSU at the bottom could mean lower temps - since, as you stated in your review Mike, hot air rises from other components and is normally vented through a top located PSU ...

About to do Fan Swap on Zalman 7000A - Which fan to choose?
Hi, I'm about to do the fan swap on my Zalman 7000A and attach the new fan with Stretch Magic. The problem is I don't have a quiet 92mm lying around that I can butcher. I was thinking about getting the Acoustifan (I have a 80mm and a 120mm that I am very happy with), but they are quite expensive jus...

Thanks for the advice. I will probably borrow my Dad's drill and give that spin :) I've had a 120mm acoustifan free-standing in front of the hole since yesterday. This combined with having the drive sled upside down with the drive on top has contributed to a whopping 10 degrees drop in my HDD idle t...

Drilling out front fan mount holes in Antec 3700BQE
Hi all I wish to mount a 120mm fan on the front of my BQE - I have already removed the grill with tin snips. The problem is that the mount holes are too small and I need to drill them out. I have a Dremel which I was going to use, but I need to find a 3/16 (approximately 5mm) drill bit for it. I hav...
