Hi, I have finished the fan swap on the PSU and all is well. I can't hear it :) Dante80, I listened to the stock Lian Li 140mm fan and compared it to the Yate Loon 140mm. I'm not sure about the voltages, I used a Zalman fanmate. Basically, there are both very quiet when under volted. The main differ...

OK, I have done some research and the screws are actually Phillips head not pozidrive. Fortunately, I have been using Phillips head screwdrivers. I managed to get one of the screws out with a Phillips head No. 2 driver, I had to press down really hard. The remaining 3 screws are a lost cause, I beli...

Well, I have been trying to take the Antec NeoPower apart so I can replace the fan. But, I am not having any success undoing the screws - frankly, I have made a bit of a mess of it. I don't think I have never seen such poor quality screws before. I have tried various screwdrivers, but the screws jus...

I have returned both my M12D's. The second one has already been tested by the reseller and they said there was no fault and it could only be heard from a couple of inches away. Yet, on my system I could clearly hear it from across the room (metres away). I have just bought an Antec NeoPower 650w and...

Hi Dante80 Thanks for the info on what you did, very interesting. I did notice that Lian Li made accessories for there cases, but I thought it was just for their higher end stuff. I decided to buy the Scythe Kama Bay and the Scythe Quiet Drive. I bought a Yate Loon 140mm fan to replace the Lian Li o...

Thanks for the comments James. If I decide to go for a 120mm PSU, I'd probably choose a Corsair HX520 (modular) over the Nexus Value (non-modular). Yes my system is quite frugal, despite having a 9600GT in it. I measure 100 watts at idle and less than 150 watts when playing Quake Wars Enemy Territor...

Thanks JamieG, your comments are helpful and will give me something more to think about! Help Me Choose a Quiet PSU for my Lian Li PC-7F
Hi Everybody, After my bad experiences with the Seasonic M12D, I am still undecided on what power supply to put in my Lian Li PC-7F case. I would like something quieter than the Enermax Modu82+. I have owned an Enermax Modu82+ previously and I found it to be pretty quiet, but not as quiet as I would...

Silverstone Nightjar ST45NF in Lian Li PC-7F - Good choice?
Hi, I was wondering if it would be a good idea to put a Nightjar ST45NF in my Lian Li PC-7F case or whether it would run too hot. My system is as follows: Asus P5Q-E Motherboard E8400 Core 2 Duo passively cooled with Thermalright HR-01 Plus Sythe Kama PWM 120mm fan as the case fan, but connected to ...

Well, I tried the Enermax PSU with the Asus P5Q-E motherboard and it was quiet (well as quiet as it normally is). I tried the Seasonic M12D in my mother's computer, but it would not power up - I think because the load is too low (it is a mATX motherboard with Celeron E1400). I added my 9600GT and co...

I have bought a second M12D from a different reseller and this one is even noisier. In addition to spinning at what looks like full speed, it sounds like a train :( There was also a periodic helicopter - but that stopped after awhile. The little bag of screws was also missing from this PSU. I have t...

Unfortunately, I don't have a power meter to measure the load. My previous PSU was an Enermax Modu 82+ 425w and that was significantly quieter with the same components, except motherboard. I have changed from an Abit IP35 Pro to an Asus PQ5-E. I would expect them it consume about the same power, may...

Re: Noisy Fan in new Seasonic M12D
This PSU is known to not be the quietest one out there. The high price is for reliability and modular cabling, not silence. If the fan is running at high speed all the time, you probably do have a defective unit. A working unit should definitely have temperature based fan control. According to the ...

Noisy Fan in new Seasonic M12D
Hi, I have just purchased a new Seasonic M12D PSU to go in my Lian Li PC-7F aluminium case. I have concluded that the noise is coming from the PSU fan after disconnecting the hard disk power and stopping the only other fan in the system. There are two distinct noises coming from the fan, a whooshing...

Thanks for the heads up! I had not read the postscript in the review, eeek! Pity I did not read your post before ordering the fan. Oh well, looks like I will have to send it back to Enermax. Which means being without my computer for an unknown amount of time since I do not have a spare PSU. :( Thank...

Epilogue: The fan of my Enermax PSU has developed fan ticking :( This only happens when (and after) the computer is under load (e.g. playing Quake Wars) and the PSU fan spins up a bit. The tapping I had before was definitely because the fan was hitting a cable tie because it was more of tapping nois...

Ha ha! I have found out what is causing the tapping. I took the grill off the PSU and I can see that the blades of the fans are hitting the nodule of a cable tie. So I have pushed the cable tie around with the aid of a screwdriver so that it is no longer in the way of the fan. Simple, huh? I d...

Okay, I have taken my computer to pieces. I then tested the PSU outside the case connected to the motherboard on a wooden table. Outside of the case, the tapping noise is still apparent. However, I still cannot see where the fan blades are contacting anything. I notice that the fan blades each have ...

Looks like I spoke too soon. It still taps and ticks, just more intermittently :( Anyway, I have a worse problem now. The new monitor has completely died. No power light, no on-screen display. I tried spinning the fan manually awhile ago and it made a noise when I did so. I could not see where or if it was contacting with anything. The tapping varies in frequency depending on what the computer is doing. Sometimes the tapping sounds more like ticking. Good news! The fan seems to have stopp...

Noisy Enermax Modu82+ 425w
Hi, I have recently completed my new build. Unfortunately there is a loud tapping noise coming from the Enermax Modu82+ PSU. It sounds like the blades of the fan are hitting the metal grill as they rotate; I'm pretty certain this is what is happening. Does anybody have any ideas on how I should fix ...

Thanks for all the info so far! I will check out the LG L227WT. I have been looking at the Dell 2408WFP, but am afraid of getting a buzzer. Hazro are a UK company that make LCDs with an external power supply (like Apple). They use S-IPS panels. Their 23" model uses the same panel as the Apple Cinema...

Thanks for the replies. I have not noticed any buzzing coming from the LCD screens at work and I am normally very sensitive to such things. I agree that CRTs can buzz as well, so too do some CRT televisions. The buzz from CRTs tends to be at a higher frequency than what I have experienced with the S...
