I only see the R3. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007583%2050014581&IsNodeId=1&name=Fractal%20Design Not sure exactly what's what below... two of them are listed as "Black", two as "Titanium Grey". Re: Old Pinned Topics

Almost everything has become terribly outdated here.

Someone was asking about a SilentPCReview wiki. I assume that no such thing exists? IMO, that would be a great idea, as even if the site operator(s) no longer have the time to maintain content, many of the more active visitors could.

I can partly get that (I think it was pretty expensive though)
There are a number of cases like that, mostly miniITX intended for HTPC duty.

Newegg is showing it in stock in several colors and is accepting orders. Amazon has never carried Fractal Design, although some of their resellers carry a few products. NCIX is the other big US and Canada dealer for FD, but they aren't showing the R4 yet.

Re: Ideas for raising case with bottom PSU off of carpet?

A couple of ideas: 1) Flip the PSU so that it intakes air from inside the case. You won't have to worry about clearance off the carpet, and it won't make any difference to PSU temps (unless you've got a GTX580 or similar in there). The temps may not differ much, but I would think that the PSU fan w...

Re: Looking to hush up my computer, P280?

I agree as well. In a gaming system a 'quiet' case may hinder airflow and just mean that you have to run more case fans at higher speeds, which becomes counterproductive.

Why don't you list your current system, case and components. Maybe someone will have other suggestions.

Ideas for raising case with bottom PSU off of carpet?

My new system built in a Fractal Design Define Mini will reside at the side of my desk on the floor. My office is carpeted, and the Mini's short rubber feet will bury themselves in the carpeting, so the PSU intake fan would be pulling air through the caprt unless I do something. In a pinch I can pla...

Re: Multiple Hard drives all in one place yet not a raid sys

We'll probably never know for sure, but I'm betting we'd all laugh if we found out that the OP has well under a terabyte of files spread across those 14 disks that he was looking to keep running. I think he has indirectly indicated something to that effect. But so what. It is a real problem to him....

Re: Multiple Hard drives all in one place yet not a raid sys

3. The best thing to do is to read and write it from time to time. One way to do that is to use a defragger. Except that with largely static data such as multi-media, once a disk has been defragmented, many of the files will never be touched again. Especially larger files that won't be moved, even ...

The proposition that the data can't be copied to new drives without risking it becoming corrupted is ludicrous. The idea of using 14 external USB drives is crazy. I wonder if the OP is hoarder who may also have 47 cats, every local newspaper going back to 1996, and ten broken down washing machines i...

Edit: A detail I didn't like to see was the strip of stamped holes in the top rear above the main exhaust. Though I don't care for the estethics of the rear side and can fix it with a strip of tape, it has no logical purpose that I can even take a wild guess at. Right. I've never really understood ...

Re: Fractal Design Define R4 launches

Although probably not that important, I think the "secret" SSD mount is pretty cool. Looks like an afterthought to me, but it's there if you need it. The motherboard has to be out of the case in order to install the SSDs in those positions, so quite a pain if you need to remove them for any reason....

Can you use FanXpert 2 on, say, a P8Z77-M? What I mean is, is it just a question of the right software or are you stuck with FanXpert+ on that mb? I tried Fan Xpert 2 on the P8Z77-M Pro for a few days, but reverted back to Fan Xpert+ because I didn't like the results. My case fans use 3-pin connect...

Re: Multiple fans on one motherboard fan header

Thanks for the links to the xbit articles. I was considering placing two Scythe Slip Stream 1300 RPM PWM fans on one header so that I might use another mobo header for a bottom fan in a Define Mini case. I'm not sure if they'd ever be run at full speed. I doubt it. One odd thing I notice in the xbit...

Multiple fans on one motherboard fan header

I've seen PWM fan splitters that have an auxiliary power input to run as many as five PWM fans off of one fan header. But I was wondering how safe it is to run two PWM fans from one header using a splitter without additional power?

Re: Prolimatech Genesis or Thermalright Archon SB-E

With the Prolimatech Megahalems, would it be quieter with two fans at very low RPM, or just one fan at a higher RPM? Actually, this question applies to most tower coolers that can use two fans in a push-pull configuration.

The thing about the Big Shuriken is that looks like it's designed to be used in an HTPC or miniITX case having very little headroom. I would think you'd want to replace the slim fan with a 25mm one when using a larger case. You're right about the fan replacement; I have the advantage of a ready res...

"Top" in what way? Silent computing, overclocking, popularity? the best for overclocking won't necessarily be best for quiet computing. There are similarities - large heatsinks and large diameter fans in both cases - but the fans supplied and turbulence from the design itself can make some of the go...

Re: What type of case fans to take advantage of ASUS Fan Xpe

Now, what about CPU fans? These have been speed-controlled by motherboards for many years. How is that accomplished? Apparently not all by PWM.

I was just looking at some information on a Noctua CPU cooler and the fans don't appear to be PWM. They mention L.N.A. and U.L.N.A. ... what are these?

I'm in the same boat. It's not necessarily the expense of the $50+ coolers, but their size. I don't want a tower too large or just barely fitting a Define Mini case. So I'm considering tower coolers with 92mm fans, but one horizontal cooler that has caught my eye is the Scythe Grand Kama Cross Rev B...

I'm planning an article specifically on fanexpert2. Companies like ASUS attempt to have products at every price point and artificially excluding features is the way that they do it. The cost differential may be ju...
