Re: What not to buy & what I ended up with
I got a Seasonic x 650 the other day and it started making a horrible clicking noise as soon as the box started heating up. I'm going to be returning it tonight for a new one and hope that one does not. The noise is very faint, but it is high pitch and annoying. I hope the new one works, everyone el...

self contained components?
I'm building a new gaming computer and I'm thinking about picking up this: MSI NX8800GTX OC Liquid http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127282 Basically it's a video card with hoses to a radiator / fan combo. Never having used watercooling (my htpc is the huge heatsink/slowed dow...

my 9600xt is passively cooled I have a the Aerocool vm101 cooler, with the heatsink mounted on the cpu side of the card so it's near the exhaust fan, though I am not sure how much air gets pulled across it since it's not right in front. But i have no problems even playing games let alone sdtv and hd...

There was an article on this in Wired a few years ago. Basically, it works, but scientists can't really agree how. Besides, those ion breeze coolers put out ozone. Ozone is not very good for you, which is why they say put a maxiumum of one per 500 sq ft. (I've heard rumors that people have gotten si...

Nice work, Ralf. Now for some controversy. From a post at Hardware Central: Quote: "And while I'm no expert on heatpipes, my understanding was that they lead the heat _upwards_. I have an AeroCool VGA heatpipe cooler, and in their documentation, they say they don't just use gravity but rather some ...

I have an Aerocool deep impact DP 102. It works really well, especially with 2 fans in push pull mode. I replaced my Scythe Kamakaze with this, and it does a better job with less noise. (about 6 deg C difference). (I have both fans undervolted to 5V). It is heavy though so it's not appropriate for t...

The SATA seagates are not quiet, the PATA are. The SATA cannot be put into "quiet mode", I don't know why, but they can't. I have two believe me they are loud. It is the seek noise that is loud, I have mine damped so there is no noise from vibration, but the seek is still really loud. They are not a...

Hi thanks, Yeah I can't put side heat sinks on since I don't have 2 open 5.25 bays (well I have one open bay, but I'd rather be symmetrical and have both cooled the same way :-). But I thought the side is the same as the bottom if the bottom is not covered by a card, since it looks to me like one pi...

heat sinks on hard drives
I was thinking, I have some heat sinks on the way, generic copper fins. I was thinking what if I used arctic epoxy to stick them onto the hard drive bottom (the front half of the bottom is all bare metal). I realize I'd probably have to sand down the metal somewhat, since it doesn't seem very smooth...
