I really can't see the point in having a computer on 24/7. It seems wasteful when it can be put into standby or hibernate state and be back up and working in 5 - 10 seconds...... My computer uses 75w at idle and in standby or hibernate 16w. I still can't understand why my motherboard requires 16w wh...

Although i agree the Seasonic S12 is quiet, i do find the fan noise quality to be more disturbing than my SP80 hard drive. The efficiency is excellent, i noticed a 22w drop in power consumption from my older Nexus NX-3000. I would say i preferred the fan in the nexus even though it was a little loud...

Have to say reading reviews like this just make you glad that SPCR exists because those sound reading don’t tell you alot. One thing which seems strange is that the NEO HE in this test seems to have similar or better efficiency compared to the Seasonics. Maybe Mikes speculative comment about 220v in...

Would a notebook drive not be an easier and comparable option to using flash drives? The single platter 40Gb drives from Samsung and Western Digital are very quiet and can be enclosed to make them silent. The cost and difficulty of a flash based systems seem too high compared to the difference in ac...

Hi HenryHonda, Welcome to SPCR neighbour! Where in Norfolk do you live? I live in Long Stratton if you know where that is? Shame about your dealings with Dabs, i don't use them anymore because well, the service is non-existent! Still a 6600GT is the card of choice, for silence and performance. What ...

This new Sempron 64 2600+ could well become the chip of choice for silent computers on a budget soon. I seem to get the impression that AMD have enabled cool and quiet on some these 64 chips as well as allowing them to use 64 bit software. It has to be the E6 stepping otherwise it will be locked on ...

I doubt that the cache and memory controller will make much of a difference, in the order of 1-2w max. Semprons with a 'BA' in model number are the 90nm D0 winchesters based. All 2600+, 2800+, 3000+, 3300+ use 90nm and most 3100+ although the first one were built using 130nm so there still might be ...

Since you only have a 9800pro, both the A64 and PM would be held back by that. Unless you enjoy watching the FPS counter while playing games the difference won't be noticable. And about CM, all 90 nm CM got speedstep. Older 130 nm are totally locked though. The Celeron M does not have Speedstep in any form even the 90nm. It depends what you define as a mess up. From Intel with the Prescott and Nvidia with the 6600, the die shrink has reduced the manufacturing costs. Is that not the whole point of making the die smaller? I don't see the massive failure of the 6600, its heat output is inline with the 9800pro but it is...
