Just to note: Aerocase's Condor Video Cooler can maintain either the X1900XTX or 7900GTX series within limits with only 20 CFM, using normal case fans. There is no need for a fan blowing on or across the heatsink, just an exhaust fan for the case.

Enclosures and other products
Hello SPCR, Sorry, I’ve been on the road for two weeks, so I’m just getting to catch up here at the lab. I know some of you guys have been asking about our enclosures, and I can tell you we are about ready to announce a product release date shortly. For those of you talking about CPU, chipset, a...

Sorry to be the barer of bad news ... but that heatpipe can't be fixed. These devices work at near a vacuum, and once that's gone ... it's gone. In general heatpipes can't be bent BACK the opposite direction more than a couple of inches. Going with the direction of the bend you can go a bit more, bu...

Thermal Stress Test
Good morning SPCR, If anyone is interested, we have posted the results of our thermal stress testing we performed on Friday. In this, the Condor was tested on a new ATI X1900XTX in 82°F (24°C) room-temps. You may find this write-up at: www.aero-case.com/preview.html Also, if anyone is interested i...

Dear SPCR members, First we’d like to thank all of you for your interest and excitement about our products. Our website is getting deluged with visits from all over the world, and front page exposure here certainly isn’t hurting. Secondly, we DO understand your frustration about the lack of a re...

The 7600 mid-size series is a tough call with some of the OC versions drawing over 65 watts. And with 60 watts being our cut-off point between the Raven and the Condor they threw the 7600 in with the high-ends. But, like all of our products, you have to make the call and tell us what you want built;...

Oscar, et al. We just ordered a 1900XTX for testing. However, we have all agreed here this morning, we've maxed out this design at 135 watts. Honestly, 477 sq. inches of cooling space is as much as we can squeeze from our customer's cases ... as it is we're already interfering with some CPU heatsink...

I figured I'd drop in and answer some of your questions before the weekend. AndyB, you wanted to know if we excluded the X800 ... no, it's on the Raven order page (it's under 60 watts, and the 850 is over 60w, so it requires a Condor). And can you bend the tubes? Well yes, but not too much without a...

Hi Guys, Sorry it's been a while since I've posted ... been pretty busy here. Just wanted to let you know that the group has added some more product details to the website, and we've made a low-bandwidth version that is HTML only. Also we've added some lower-cost international shipping options, whic...

Hi guys, I work for the company, so getting this feedback is great. I'll pass it along so we get those flash problems fixed. Also, if you'd like I can get some more pics posted here. You're right though, the Raven cooler is exactly the same configuration, just shorter wings. We're going to try to ge...

Firstly, there is good old fasioned friction. Those transistor gates opening and shutting so fast builds up a fair bit of heat - they may be small but there's a lot of them. Secondly, electron leakage. To some extent this is caused by the first, as it gets worse the hotter the chip is. Electrons "j...

Hi Griff,
A few months back I posted a similar project, adding heatsinks to a PSU. Here is the link with the pictures.

Currently I am working on a completely fanless PSU mod. I'll have pictures up soon!

I hate to tell you this, but you are going to need another fan, maybe two. That 80mm exhaust fan isn't going to be able to draw enough air to keep the 35w CPU, the 40w ATI, the drives, AND the radiant PSU heat from baking the case. Why not go with a 120mm fan PSU? It'll draw enough to cool the CPU w...

Jools, We need to test this first, but right now we don't think we can get away with removing the PSU fan on a SFF case with 150+ watts of board heat (not to mention the drives). We obviously will change it out for a quieter one, but I think we're going to need SOME internal airflow. As for the GPU,...

My company is currently working on exactly this, a silent, high-performance PC case. Our testbed is the Antec Aria, which we have code-named BlackFin (picture link below). I can't tell you more about it until we complete our tests with the new heatpipes we've ordered. However, at least on paper and ...

Dan, No, there's no such thing as "superconducting" heatpipes. This is just good marketing hype for using better quality parts. What they are referring to is using powdered metal (also known as "sintered") in the core instead of a spiral grove cut inside. It costs about 3 times as much to manufactur...

Wim and Ralf, I bought the older Zalman model HC-1, (not the HC-2), exactly because the aluminum side plates are screwed in. Here is a picture: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/stealthgirl051/detail?.dir=dddc&.dnm=6249.jpg The pipe bending tool won't work because these pipes are only 5mm in diameter. I...

Straightening heatpipes
Does anyone have any ideas on the best way to un-bend heatpipes? In frustration of not being able to get samples (or for that matter any cooperation from any manufacturers), I bought a Zalman HC-1 hard drive cooler to use the ten pipes. As you know, these are bent 90 degrees on the ends. However, in...

H-e-l-l-o ... No, I haven't tried it yet, because I said I don't own it yet; at the same time, yes, it's going to work. That PSU is getting vented by a 120mm fan. Opening that slot on 25% of the available area is only going INCREASE the cooling on the PSU heatsinks, not decrease it. In fact, the guy...
