Re: Dead silent PC [Fanless GT730 + Core i5-4460] [V2: GTX10

Not in 2D, I can't notice any difference with Autocad 2D between the HD4600, GT730 and GTX1050 I thought so - that's why I didn't buy that card yet. I have a similar setup and HD4600 in 2D is probably on par with all current graphics cards. But this card is a really great deal - as cheap as other o...

Re: picoPSU for Core i7 system?

not really apples to apples - but I'm using no-name picoPSU knock-off (because I can get only low power REAL picoPSU where I live). It's rated @200W (year right  ) and accepts 18V brick - that is a more common voltage for the high power bricks. I'm using it with 140W HP power brick (from a lap...

I'm eyeing the same card for casual pc gaming.

For work - I'm using mostly photoshop and AutoCAD 2D.
I know that for 3D it will be a big change - but did you noticed any difference in 2D after the change?

Cool! You've set it up similar to mine system - but I have max temp set even higher @80'C Good call with mid temp set to 70'C - it will prevent fan ramping up with short high CPU load. Or at least it works like this in my setup and workflow with cpu working @ full speed, but not longer than 60-90 se...

Yes, I know it's not the same scenario :)
But I'm referring to OP temp report: 40'C @ 1000rpm - so I'm trying to say that he can still be on a safe side with lower rpm and higher temps. like 50-60'C @ 800 rpm

Great build. Thanks for sharing. Nice case and this custom I/O shield is a great addition. It makes a world of difference. I know it's in the back where no one can see it - but well... YOU know that it's there :D. I think you can slow down the fan a little bit - like 800rpm when idle/normal work (no...

Re: G4400T vs G4400 (reducing TDP via Windows processor stat

Maybe this changed with newer CPUs, but last time I've checked (socked 1155) it wasn't really beneficial to go with T CPUs. TDP is not IDLE (or normal usage) power consumption (or heat dissipation) and T CPUs don't have measurably different power characteristics at the same clocks, they're just cloc...

Re: need to replace power supply on legacy silent pc

But you go to overheat the PSU, so (detriment of some internal parts): in PSUs overhung fans do need to stay where they are. Can you elaborate more why is that? I was doing it with every (old/cheap) PSU I had with great effect (silence) - but maybe I was wrong all the time (and it won't be the firs...

Re: need to replace power supply on legacy silent pc

I did a few PSU fan swaps before. Here is what I recommend: 1. open the PSU and remove the old fan - and simply cut the cables 2. buy non-PWM fan 3. power it from molex connector @5V - using red and black wires 4. mount the fan OUTSIDE the psu case using rubber mounts *2 - I would buy a slower rated...

Frankly... I don't know what is so special with this case. If you want a small case with i3 - why not to buy a second hand dell small form factor pc (or HP)? Like - Dell Optiplex 390 Small Form Factor (SFF) or bigger if you need more extension cards. Your case alone is around $50 and that DELL can b...

Re: best airflow for the smallest (14l) modded mATX case

The very best reason is to not re-circulate hot air. Do you need that? Not really. Cooling is not the problem - temps (mobo and hdd) are actually better with case closed so there is enough cool air in case right now. Everything is cool (pun intended) without the intake fan. But I was wondering if I...

OK. More tests behind me :) This time running @100% on all 4 cores. temps-v2.jpg my observations: FOR NORMAL WORK (with YT playing music in background) with case exhaust @650rpm only (CPU fan off) everything is perfectly ok, temp hovers at around 40-48'C with spikes up to 65'C when making CPU intens...

Re: The Making Of A Silent Office Room

If your current PSU has 120mm fan and you don't mind a little of DIY - I would simply remove PSU fan (cut the cables) and replace it with a new silent one connected to the case fan header on the motherboard. Easy to do and realtively cheap (about 10-15$ for good silent fan). And I would definitely r...

Re: thermalright macho rev b vs macho x2?

I have Thermalright macho rev A (with 120mm fan). I love it for normal work / watching video etc. - it's almost silent @800 rpm, and inaudible @650rpm, but @1200-@1500rpm is unbearably loud - not a good fan if you are planning to stress your CPU (like... gaming :D). The heatsink itself is pretty goo...

S2 does have fixed holes - mine looks the same as the one reviewed by SPCR. I've just measured - mounting holes pitch is: 38mm, 43mm, and 48mm Plus my GT240 (ASUS DDR5) has larger mounting holes pitch - 53mm. So I can't use S2. But it really doesn't mater because it wouldn't fit in case anyway - tot...

you can use miniHDMI to HDMI converter (more common and available) and then HDMI to DVI cable (that is more common - and cheaper).
