Your mobo fits the case much better than mine! I had to cut half the 3.5 in bay off because the power socket for the motherboard was right under it, and the plug was too big to fit!

If your drives have SMART sensors, SpeedFan will read em. There's also Motherboard Monitor. (smartd for Linux). *Edit* And in answer to your other questions, I've never really seen a satisfactory answer to it. It's all a voodoo electrical engineer cocktail of recommendation and safe levels and poten...

HTPC - Silverstone LASCALA SST-LC13-B

SILVERSTONE LASCALA SST-LC13-B Black I got one of these for Christmas, and while I love how it looks, the inside has been way more trouble than I had anticipated. The overall airflow inside the case is just bad, due largely to the videocard stopping just short of the drive bays. I've got a AMD Athl...

HTPC - Looks finally matter

My wife and I are finally moving out of our apartment into a beautiful house. Me, being the caring and sensitive man I am, instantly realized what this means: My old mythtv machine is far too ugly to go in our new house. It's currently housed in an old generic case that has been floating around with...

I don't recall off the top of my head the difference between a 7000A and 7000B, but I've got an A7N8X with an CNPS-7000A-Cu and it fits just fine, unless you know of any oddities with your PSU placement.

Appreciate the concern Mike. Ultimately though, the solution I went with played as much into psychology as physics. I bought the Antec Ralf had listed in the Dealer/Surplus post, which may be able to handle the problem itself. The USB is as much for peace of mind as it is likely to help anything. My...

Hate sounding so dense

Thanks for the help. The feature I'm looking for, for the benefit of others stumbling through this thread, is "AVR".

The model I'm looking at now is the "Belkin Office Series 550VA UPS Part # F6C550-AVR" unless anyone has any strong feelings or good advice in another direction.

I'm guessing that's the problem. I need to keep the combined total as close to $100 bucks as I can. I'm browsing the UPS listed on newegg as a point of reference. The numbers I need to look for are models that have a greater tolerance for input variance? Say something like a: BELKIN Office Series 55...

Burned out PSU x2

My little sister at college has managed to kill two PSU's in under a year. She's in an old dorm with unknown wiring, but she swears she had them both plugged into a surge protector. Both PSU's were generic brands (I didn't see either of them) put in by a computer shop. Last time she had to replace t...

Do AMD64s still command an early-adopter premium? Not a huge one, if you're upgrading anyway. It really depends on what you compare to. That's part of the motivation of AMD64, you'll likely be glad you got it in the long run. AMD64 compare favorably both price and performance wise to P4s. Couple of...

Snide remark: Sempron's are the new Duron and Celeron. Big companies will buy them because saving $10 per chip adds up. Why would YOU want one? There is a significant performance hit to use a Sempron, which your daughter may or may not care about, but folding will sure notice. Don't confuse the giga...

From the hour of so's reading I've done on the board, I see that a lot of you are going for 64-bit processors. Is there a particular reason for this? What are the advantages of 64-bit processors? Do they run cooler? Would they offer more performance for CPU-intensive tasks, such as audio editing? S...

GeForce Ti4200 -- Does it NEED the fan in 2D mode?

First thing I should admit is I have no idea how to actually measure the GPU temps since I don't have a temperature probe and don't have any spare cash to get one. I've got a GeForce Ti4200 running in my MythTV front end and I was wondering if it really got hot enough to need the fan on it, and whet...

Thanks for the feedback. I'm highly paranoid about CPU temperatures, mostly because I can't afford to replace anything I destroy. I adjusted the config file to fix the +3v number, and I'm just ignoring the -5 and the -12 because I'm guessing they aren't reporting valid numbers and probably don't mat...
