Re: Need advice on how to install 2.5" media card reader

thanks for the advice, you saved me a lot of grief

Screws were included with the reader, I just didn't see where/how they would fit - but finally they did.

note to self: try harder next time :)

Need advice on how to install 2.5" media card reader

Hi all, I'm trying to install a 2.5 " media card reader in my HTPC SFF Dell optiplex 760. There are no retention brackets or anything for the reader to stay put in the bay. I was thinking using epoxy to glue the unit to the frame's metal. Is there a more intelligent solution, one that would perhaps ...

I was looking at getting a P180 and a phantom 500 as well, but was hesitating because of the ambient temp, but I guess Singapore and HoCh...

BenW,
45C was when it was under that big foam pad, so I presume it helped to trap heat. In the normal drive cage like I have it now, it's running 35C idle. There's not much air moving in my case really...the 2 only fans are in the PSU, drawing air from the CPU duct.

using DTEMP my friend
After reaching 45C, I decided it was too much. I'm glad I decided that because the HD was pretty much cooking in there, it felt really hot to the touch. So for now I put back in the cage so it can dissipate heat throughout the case.

My room temp varies between 24 to 26 C.

thanks ~El~Jefe~, For the duct, well, although it's far from a perfect fit, it does the job relatively well. As well, there is a heatsink on the cpu, but with no fan (only the PSU's fan is moving fan away from cpu). About the foam, yeah maybe i'll get rid of it given heat concerns, not sure I want m...

My first attempt at silencing my system...

I had a screamer fan on my CPU, and it being only an XP1800+, I took out the fan and instead made a duct to the PSU fan. Since my PSU has 2 (quiet) fans, it's good to move enough air. Next I suspended my samsung spinpoint using nylon-elastic bands. Have a look and tell me what you think! CPU temp we...

I can't recommend plextor as the one I got last xmas gave me plenty of coasters and crc errors. I traded it for a nec3500 and it worked really well.
Plextor is really not what they used to be!

Buying notebook in Canada, bring to Vietnam?

hi all,
This fall I'll have to buy a laptop for a relative in vietnam. Are there any issues for the power supply? I believe it's 220 volts in Vietnam and the prongs are different. Will the power supply work in vietnam with a simple prong adapter?

thanks!

I have the AGP version. It's got a weird kind of cabling, it's a DMS-59 cable (59pin) which outputs to 2 connections, either vga or dvi.

and best of all, no fan! :)
