Well I received mine on Friday and so had a couple of days to play with it. It's on the desk and I can clearly hear a buzzing, which I'm guessing is the hard drive. Under load, it doesn't seem to get that much louder (Core Duo). The hardrive is a STxxx so I'm guessing a Seagate - 100gig btw. In abso...

Powered by Ethernet!

Spotted on BBC News

Can't get much info about the specs, but it is powered by a geode processor, so should be about 500mhz? (You can get 1500mhz at 6w according to AMD's site). The best part is that it has no moving parts! Silent :D

Anychance of a review sample? ;)

If you can afford it, take a 9800pro, and use modded drivers to turn it into a FireGl X2. The 9800pro is a well priced card, the only thing you would miss is dual dvi.

Regarding the HDD suspension using elastic wire: I urge you to reconsider this idea. Suspending HDDs in this manner will severely reduce performance (up to one-third, or worse) and in the long term may actually be harmful to the HDD. The solution I used was to mount aluminium U-brackets to the side...

I have a coolermaster fan controller thingyjig (can't remember its name now) that came with thermal probes. I could wire it up and take some readings from that. I'll crack it open tomorrow and see what they read. I can jury rig a duct either from my 5.25 bays, or from the side vents in my sonata. Do...

What difference does removing the fan from the xp-120 have? To me it just looks like it will blow the air against the wall, as well as causing turbulence. With another 120mm fan, and in a tunnel, personally i'd have removed the xp120 fan.

Well, its reasonably warm, but I don't think its that much warmer than my sonata air was. And it doesn't seem too different to when it was running at 12v, although a lot quieter :D Only thing i can say is that my cpu socket has gone up by a degree or two. Is the exhaust temp a reasonable indicator o...

How Long Till My Q-Tec Dies? =]

So, my sonata psu died, and i bought a cheap 550w q-tec psu for 15 crisp english pounds. Now it did have 2 80mm fans going at 12v, but that was, err, sounding like it was at 30 000 feet and still climbing :P So i removed the bottom exhaust, and modded the rear to 7v. Is this safe, or should I give i...

Project 1476 - unknown Core?

Fahmon reports this as an unknown core, with unknown credit. Is this a bug, or just a weird wu? Its doing a frame in about 35mins, it norm does one of the 600pointers in about 38mins a frame. Ideas?

Mine was hissing when moving the mouse and so forth. It happened after flashing my 9800 pro to an xt. After discovering artifacts in 3dmark, i whacked the fan up a few notches, and then the hissing stopped at the same time. I thought it was caused by the card overheating or something. Edit: The hiss...

First it wouldnt wake from standby, then when i restarted it went into a constant reboot loop lasting about 3 secs each time. Then it just wouldnt go on. Was an antec 380s (the one from a sonata). Nothing else went with it. I've heard about problems with cheap and nasty psu's mind, so I'd avoid them...

A busy week later and finally found some time to update. I've taken the drives out, and tested them with my brothers pc. No issues whatsoever. Then went to maplins, bought a cheap multimeter. Plugged it in, set it to 20v dc range, and turned psu on. Got about half a second of power, then wham. It go...

There's also efficeny to cover. A 500w psu might be really bad at 150w, thus producing more heat than a 300w would, thus requiring more cooling, ergo, louder (possibly). It's a bit of a numbers game tbh. What sort of spec were you looking to use with it?

OK, So I'll test it one by one. Thing is, previously I used to get 4.98V on the 5v in bios, and its dropped to 4.4 now. Whether this is because of something else or not I don't know. I'll have to wait until this evening to do it though. Hope its not the motherboard :/ P.S. Former life? Been reincarn...

Just a quick question, is the voltage shown in the bios before or after component draw? If it's after, would a multimeter actually give me the correct reading? I should really know this, but brain isn't co-operating.

Apa-logies to the slight hijackage, but its still on topic-ish. I currently have the C version of the zalman, with the slim fan attached. Can't hear it. I think my psu is dead. Not sure though. So, you tell me. Came home from work the other day, and monitor wouldn't wake. Rebooted. Wouldn't load windows. Then hard drives started squeaking. Yes. Squeaking. Like three squeaks in a row, then repeat. After that, wouldn't detect ide drives. And its not m...
