Re: System build advice - rendering/graphics station
Well the system POSTs (YES!) but I've only plugged in a few of the fans available thus far (due to limitations of inputs on the motherboard). I'd like to ask what my best possible solution would be: - install my Sunbeam Rheobus fan controller into the tower and use this to control fan speeds - use a...

Re: System build advice - rendering/graphics station
Thanks for the tips, I ended up going with the following (seems like the 550D fans should be suitable enough): case: Corsair 550D Obsidian cpu: Intel Core i7-3770K (higher stock speed and ability to OC kept me with the 3770K) mb: ASUS P8Z77-V LX2 (not planning on OC'ing that much, but this board sup...

System build advice - rendering/graphics station
After 5 years of working with my current system, it looks like it's finally time to upgrade my desktop station. My current build has been incredibly reliable, but it's definitely time to get a bit more speed. Was hoping SPCR could have a look at my build and let me know how it looks: Case - Corsair ...

Well, I ended up going a completely different route. I'm wondering if somebody can have a look at the system and tell me whether my Seasonic S12 430W will be enough to power it. I looked at the power supply calculator, and it should be OK, just wanted another check: - AMD Phenom II TRIPLE X3 710 - S...

But what's a budget video card get you that modern onboard graphics don't? NVIDIA 9300/9400 spank your existing video card. I think you should either go with onboard video or a higher end graphics card coupled with a lesser CPU. I was under the impression that onboard video was always garbage. In a...

Even if you are doing photoshop and 3d, a quad core CPU might actually be good because these apps actually use the other cores while games don't always. On the other hand, you will need a better graphics card. Especially if you're doing 3d, I would suggest a workstation card like ATI's FireGL or Nv...

Want to build Q8200 system - looking for advice
I'm looking to build a budget-ish Q8200 system which will be used primarily for Photoshop and 3D work, television, but not gaming. I've built a silent system before, so have kind of an idea of what I'm looking for, but I could use some advice on a motherboard, etc. This will be running a 24" monitor...

Thanks for the help so far. I'm probably going to go for 4gb of ram in 2 sticks, maybe upgrade to 8 later. Would this be a sufficient passive card for proper video on a 24" lcd:

non gamer - looking to upgrade
The title might be a bit misleading as I do need a fairly powerful system. I'm looking for something that will give me a good home rig for 3d/rendering work. Unfortunately that looks like I'll probably want to go with a quad core, and I don't know how viable that is for a "silent" system. I will be ...

Anybody know anything about the Gigabyte M56S-S3 - nForce 560 board?
Seems almost too cheap to be true ... probably is!
Here is a pic, with some info (sorry, in Czech)

I just made the jump to AM2 Brisbane and DDR2 as well. Personally, I bought an MSI K9AG-Neo2 Digital motherboard, It's an awesome mobo with its only weakness being no support for Speedfan on the non-CPU fan headers (and there are ways around that). As others have said, DDR memory still has good sal...

AM2 motherboard + CPU combo, compatibility questions
Upgrading again, after about 2 years. Love the silence of my system right now, but am looking at upgrading my processor, which means that I should probably move to AM2. Just a few questions. I don't want to have to buy a bunch of new RAM, I have 4 sticks of DDR400, PC3200 RAM, which motherboard woul...

front "grill" attachment for slk3000b
I was wondering if there is an accessory for the slk3000b that would act as a "grill" on the front panel. Basically, I'm running 3 ide drives in my PC. The third one is sitting under the DVD drive in the case, just resting on the case, not attached in any way. I'm basically wanting to get fan blowin...

Great to see another ax8 user, I have that board and love it. Please post pics of what it looks like with the ninja on it. Is your Nexus 92 connected to the Fan controller? if no then connect it. Things you need is maybe Ninja so you can take out the CPU duct. Also cut out the fan grills, and lastly put some foams on the side panel and around the HD. I just have it connected to the mobo automatic sensor, would there be...

Just looking for suggestions on what to improve as I have a bit of extra money that I wouldn't mind putting into it. I'm surprised that the Nexus 92mm is the loudest thing in your case considering you have two Maxtor HD's in there. Are you running the 92mm at 12V most of the time? It's attached to ...

Have you tried slowing your cpu-fan? Is it clicking, is there wind noise? What speed is it running at? Since you have an xp-90, a good idea is to make the cpu-fan suck. That way you should be able to run the fan quite slow and the hot air should go straight out the case. Try to understand the probl...

xp90 w/ 120mm fan, possible?
I've heard that this may be possible to rig. I currently have the xp90 w/ a 92mm nexus fan, and it is by far the loudest thing in my rig, would definitely like to go up to a 120mm if possible. I'm sure somebody has done this on here, but I can't find the thread and have tried a few different searche...

This is definitely beginning to piss me off, it's definitely louder than when I bought it, but I am unsure why, I seriously hope it's not the quality because it's not exactly a cheap PSU. I suppose I could replace the fan, but that deinitely seems like a lot of work, especially after only having the...

Is it getting noisier in like the fan increasing in speed or is it getting louder as in developing clickng/grinding from the bearings or motor or is it whining from the coils? If its the fan speeding up and you havent made any changes to the system you could use some compressed air to blow out the ...
