Have you considered the Pentium-M (centrino)? It runs from the P4 in many tasks, the power consumption is far below leading to lower temps, lower fannoise (usually none) and longer batterylife. A much better choice IMO.

Can't help you with the P4, though. Welcome to SPCR by the way :D

Wouldn't that extra current draw simply be manifested as heat? I mean, if a processor draws 50 watts, it's gonna generate 50 watts of heat . This isn't true. Are you sure about this, meglamaniac? According to the fundamental law of energy conservation, the energy that goes in, must come out again. ...

The cooling works like a charm. Hightower, who posted in the original thread, had even better results than I had.

The difference must be that my case has close to NO airflow when I turn my pabst off.

Thanks for the responses! I have just updated my article with some measurements and altered the conclusion a little, because it seems that I didn't stress the card properly in the beginning. My thermal resistance calculations were definately wrong, so please disregard my previous post. Look at my re...

Your welcome! A little follow up: With the estimated thermal resistance value of 1 deg/watt (which may be flawed (takes no responsibility)), one can calculate how much power the heatsink can handle properly. If we say that 70 deg. is the highest acceptable temperature, in a box with 30 deg, you get ...

Successfully mounted Zalman Northbridge cooler on vga!

Hi In my search for fanless, efficient, middle-end 3d acceleraton, I think I got a very nice solution for little money (at least in my country). It involves the "trick" of installing the cheap Zalman Northbridge cooler on a Radeon 9600 XT. Why and how is all elaborated in this little article I just ...
