Fanless A64 With Reserator and Phantom
Well, system build time is nearing this month and I'd like some feedback from all the knowledgable types here. I think my planned system is possible, if perhaps a bit dangerous or at least not recomended. So without furthur ado: What I already have and are re-using: A clanging Reserator with CPU and...

Mines been great, never had a problem. It sits outside my case and gets zero airflow. It gets very hot to the touch sometimes - I'd equate it to a fresh cup of coffee. This is in summer, ambient temperatures of up to 30C. I run it normally for about 14-20 hrs a day. I've had it for 2 months. Serial ...

Great news. How much did it end up costing you, including shipping? Do you think the DDC is small enough to be fitted internally in the reserator? Does sitting it on foam reduce the noise from vibration like with the Eheims? It'd be good to hear your feedback after testing the DDC in a silent enviro...

Are you hell-bent on getting the P4 550? You'll find that everyone in the forums recommends an Athlon 64 based system which will run much cooler than an equivilant powered P4. IIRC, the Athlon 64 3000's, 3200's, and 3500's are available on socket 939 in 90nm. The Western Digital hard drive will be n...

Power usage sole indicator of how hot a drive will run?
I'm wondering if the power usage of a hard drive is the sole indicator of how hot it will run compared to other drives. I ask because in my Smart Drive 2002C i have a Seagate Barracuda 5400.1. Seagate's specifications say it uses 4.5 watts at idle, and 6.4 during read/write. Under usage, the drive g...

hey i run my system fanless with the reserator. currently ive been experimenting with the antec phantom inside the case. with phantom inside of the case, cpu temps rose about 6 degrees. im running an athlon 1800, they rose from an average of 44 degrees to 50, nothing to worry about there. with the s...

IIRC from physics class, when 2 waves meet, if they are exactly the same, they add together, creating double the noise, which seems to be what is happening to you. perhaps suspending one drive, and hard mounting or decoupling the drive in a different way, would suitably differentiate the 2 waves so ...

Re: my experiences with the reserator
it sits up on my desk, about 3 feet away from me on an old jumper because it vibrates.. oops, dont think i made myself clear enough there. its sitting on top of a mousemat, a latex pad that soles of shoes are cut from, and finally a very soft old jumper. it does make a big difference to noise level...

well ive been turned off the laptop drive idea for the moment now. i'll wait until the next line of drives come out next year and see what they are like. i wouldnt mind getting a smart drive, though id have to import one from america. i know it doesnt make the drive silent, so would enclosing the sm...

hard drive decision woes
i cant decide what hard drive to buy. naturally i want quietness, performance and capacity. first though i want silence, or at least not being able to detect if the drive is on (seeks included) from more than 1ft. i could make do with 80 gig, although more would be nice. it seems from the review her...
