I believe you, Das_Saunamies, but I am worried. Maybe the Pioneer is intelligent enough to speed down when you are reading certain media, as DVD movies, or CDAudio. But... what happens when you play other multimedia files in other formats? What happens if you play a divx file from the DVD disk? does...

Hey, Mike, you say that the Triton75 doesn't fit in your mobo, because it exits more than an inch out of it, in the upper side, and it will interfere with the PSU.... but I see that if you turn the Triton 180º, the problem dissapears. (the heatpipes' elbows pointing upwards, to the PSU side). could...

Magicspeed is such a scam. Apparently it doesn't do much to reduce CD reading speed in the first place, and it's also on by default.. Sigh! :( so instead of music, you hear a jet engine. At least it wasn't expensive, but next time I'm considering NEC or Pioneer. If Asus can get their DVD drives for...

Max - 12 - 8 - 6 - 4 on my Nero. All work. CD read speed unavailable for control. ok, thanks Das_Saunamies. So, if you want to hear a music CD, and you don't use any software to control the speed, the Samsung will play it at full speed with jet engine sound?? Well, there is a solution. Acco...

But Exel, your old Samsung is not the SH-S203B, isn't it? No, it isn't. And it could be lightyears better than the SH-W163A I had, I wouldn't know. But the bad experience with this older Samsung kept me from getting the S203B and I got the Plextor drive instead - just reporting how it is, as a viab...

So I got that Plextor PX-800A installed. Plextools works to the effect of setting the drive speed, but apparently setting the spin down time does nothing, though it's by default shorter than with the Samsung. As for noise, it might actually be a bit louder in absolute dB than the old Samsung SH-W16...

sorry I don't understand this part. :?: Refer to previous post. I have read the previous post. It says that his drive stays spinning for 2 minutes, >> but because it meant that when the drive spun up when idle, it kept spinning for 2 minutes before settling down - at full speed, and for no good rea...

Yeesh... well I can assure you this Samsung doesn't do it - if it's that way by default or because I have Nero controlling it, dunno. :? this Samsung doesn't do it? what do you mean? sorry I don't understand this part. :?: its a pity the Samsung has such a long spindown time. Hi again. Maybe its not a big problem after all. I have tested the EarthWatts on an old Celeron 1GHz system, and voltage is 12,41V at full load. This is better than the PSU that I had on this system (a cheap "ANS"-branded PSU), which reaches 12,52 V at full load. The Celeron system works ok with the...

so maybe its that I am drawing too little power from the 12V line?? or too much from the others? mmmh. okay, for better comparison, I have removed a couple of TV cards that I had connected. Now it is just the CPU, the Radeon, and the HDs. With 2 HDs: 12.40V no CPU load 12.48V full CPU load (Prime 95...

urg. I have increased the load (connected a few more things) and now the voltage it even higher: 12,43V. while booting, it reached 12,48V. this is clearly out of Antec's own spec of +-3% line regulation. still, this system is not drawing too much power. so I wonder what will happen in high-power sys...

Antec EarthWatts 380: 12V line @12,39V too high?
Hello: I have bought the Antec EarthWatts 380, and I have a little problem. The 12 V rail is giving me what I think it is a very high voltage: 12,39V. This is 3,25% above 12V. *I think* the EarthWatts380 specsheet says it shoud be between +-3% http://www.antec.com/specs/EA380_spe.html (load regulati...

@smilingcrow: yes, I will run Samsung utility HUTIL. But this is not enough. There are programs that punish the drive with a variety of heavy tasks for hours. This is a good way to discover hidden weaknesses. Re. the jumper, yes, with my faulty drive, at first I thought that could be due to the jump...

Hello smilingcrow. thanks for your very informative post. I have talked with my retailer about my failed P120 drive. one important question: My Samsung SP2504C (P120, SATAII, 250 GB) was shipped without the typical transparent plastic shell (box). Instead, a a primitive cardboard enclosure was used. This is not normal because all my previous Samsungs were shipped in the classic plastic box. How was your drive ship...

Something else: before dying, I tried to format the drive in Windows. Quick format worked, but long format always got stuck at 3%, making access noises. @Marc: about my P120, 250GB, SATA drive: before dying, I had it running, and it was pretty silent. The motor was Nidec. Vibration was small. Access noise was acceptable. My previous Samsungs were from the 80 series, PATA, and all of them had JVC motors. Very silent too. So I have nothing to complain...

Defective Samsung 250 GB SATA. tell me your experiences
Hello. I am a happy user of 5 Samsung drives from the "80 series", (4 V80 and 1 P80). All of them 160 GB drives. No problems. But now I have purchased 1 drive of the new P120 series. Its a 250 GB, SATA II. After failed attempts of formatting it, it was dead, "CLONKING", and not booting. Now its RMA,...
