I doubt that EPIA M10000 will be able to play DIVX movies without problems though.. It can play DVD OK though. See www.mini-itx.com With some luck you can get M10000 completely silent. Buy Tranquil, or that other brand. They've built completely fanless systems. The drawback is that you only have pla...

I read the article and realized that it was back in August 2002 !. Anyway, The main gripe was that THG tried upgrading the case with a different motherboard, and then the cooling system didn't work for some mysterious reason. The manufacturer claims that THG broke/misused the heatpipe, but THG tried...

External AD could be a solution. Then optical s/pdif to your computer. But I guess it's not the solution you want. Quite expensive. But If you wan't true studio quality I guess it's the only way to go. Then (XVCO) temperature stabilized oscillators would be the next step (low jitter). www.jitter.de

Check out Terratecs cards. They're pretty good. The Aureon 5.1 Fun is quite a nice card, featuring true 44.1khz (s/pdif) (NO samplerate conversion) and 5.1 sound. I don't know about their DAC's though.. also http://www.harmonydesign.se/da9.htm this should be a decent dac. Be sure to buy it with a FI...

Re: fortron 300
I was also dissapointed, reading that great review on THG. I heard an annoying high-pitched sound all the time. And since I like the continuos hair-dryer sound much better I sent it back. I'll try the Zalman piece next time, or I'll wait until they come up with cheap, dependable fanless PSU's . :cr...

tried it out briefly. Although a nice try it still has a long way to go. The MP3 part wasn't very good or intuitive. And you can't turn the monitor off without turning the sound off too. You want to be able to control your player without the screen lighting up your bedroom. Also the readablility fro...

I also took a peek on the finnish solution. ALthough I don't know any finnish it sure looked like he was on the right track. A Bass-port solution would be really cool. But what if we can't make it completely silent?. Then what kind of noise is tolerable?. White noise surely, but once you put in some...

Why not just have a hinged door on the front for Cd access? I mean, of all the hours you spend computing, how much of that time is actually spent switching CDs? Even though it would be noisier to open the cabinet and swap the CD, it's only going to be for a few seconds. It seems to me any other opt...

DIY cabinet?
Any one working on such a cabinet?, anyway here is a design I came up with in 15 min. I'm planning to build a cabinet to my computer. Quite large of course. More than twice the width of a normal midi-tower. It should only have holes for cables (to keyboard, monitor etc) and one vent at the top (I be...
