The discussion has got me even more curious to find out how much the difference is in real life.
So, I will be testing that as soon as my case is done and my hardware is in. (Which will be a couple of weeks, I think...)
I will post the results as soon as I have something.

Re: Data on upside down heatpipe performance
Thanks for the great article! It seems that the performance is highly dependent on the type of wick used. But even for the metal powder type, which is best able to work against gravity, the difference is pretty massive, especially with increasing heat loads. (Figure 10 in the article.) For the groov...

Data on upside down heatpipe performance
I am planning to scratch build an HTPC to replace my ASUS Pundit. My initial thinking was to have the motherboard mounted to the top of the case, have the CPU heatsink pulling air through a large open grill at the bottom of the case and exhaust out a grill at the rear. I was thinking of using a Scyt...

...Anyone have a dell D600 than can tell me how loud it is? I'm currently using a D610 and the fan is very quiet, on the low setting, it is easily easily masked by the hdd noise. At high, its audible but very smooth, no whining, just airflow noise. Also, a friend of mine had the D505, and it was pr...

mht or something in Firefox 2?
Hello, I've been using Firefox 2 for a while now, love it, except for one thing: I really miss the option of saving web pages as a single file in IE, in .mht format. I still go back to IE to save pages because having it in a single file is just so convenient. I found something called MAF, but it doe...

Well, displaying a prototype is not quite the same as going into a showroom and buying it. Volvo is also going to be displaying a prototype: http://www.autobloggreen.com/2007/09/06/frankfurt-preview-volvo-recharge-the-swedes-go-series-hybrid/ Even then, these are not cars built from the ground up to...

Yes, I agree that having it shut off completely while in stop and go traffic is brilliant. However, I think capturing braking energy is more hype than substance. To capture a useful amount of braking energy you would ideally brake softly and stop over a long distance. But in city driving your brakin...

Just curious, does anyone know how much the battery + electric motor in the Prius weighs? I really wish someone would buy two identical Priusses, strip one of them down to a basic car (toss out everything related to the "Hybrid Synergy Drive" or whatever its called), and test them to see which one u...

Nice review! Possible typo on the last page (or maybe not, I'm not a native English speaker...) "making this a formidal gaming setup" This sounds like "formidable" ? And, " six mounting holes "?, it looks like it has 3 in the middle, 2 at the bottom, and (can't see in the picture but I'm guessing) 2...

Very nice review as always. It it interesting the way that the vx450 ramps up much sharper than the others. Does anyone else think that the airflow baffle thing limits its use as a heat extractor? It seems that the baffle will help move more air over the heatsinks but at the cost of air flow rate, t...

Well, I would suggest trying it in the shop before buying any camera. Some digital cameras are so sluggish and slow that you can never get the picture you want, you always get like 1 second later. SO frustrating... Other than that, might be useful to get one that is quite wide angle at the bottom of...

I have a Dell D610 that I have been running undervolted for about 2 years now with NHC. Mine is running at 1.148v at 1.86G, and 0.7v at 0.8G. At 1.86G, it shaves off 6 watts at full load, and about 1-2? watts at full load at 0.8G. You can monitor power drain if you are running on battery power in NH...

Re: CPU power consumption, single-core vs dual-core
True or false: In other words, the application will drive the CPU to 100% in a single core, thus hitting the full TDP, while a dual-core will only drive the total CPU usage to 50%, thus consuming far less than the rated TDP (for argument's sake, 50% of the rated TDP). Makes sense, but it would be 5...

wow, crappy crappy review. Isn't this supposed to use a 140mm fan? "IFX-14" seems to imply that, so why are they testing with a 120mm fan? and why are there two bars on the temperature graphs? Why can't they have a picture together with a Ninja or Ultra 120 or something to show the size... worst rev...

Harddisk next to speakers?
I've recently bought a speaker set for my laptop (Logitech X-540). I also have my external harddisk on my desk. Is it ok to place them next to each other? I *seem* to remember something about keeping magnetic stuff away from speakers or something? Is there any harm in putting a harddisk next to a sp...

I recently bought the 320GB version of it. So far I am not so impressed with the noise. The enclosure is just plastic with many big holes in it, so it doesn't do anything to reduce the noise. You can just look through the holes and see the disk. For reference, I have been using a 120GB Samsung house...
