hehe, that's a tried and true (and easy :D) solution. i have my web server in the garage for the same reason. it's a PII 300, and the fan on that old slot 1 is really loud. that's my next silencing project, when i upgrade the components, but until then i can barely hear it through the thick concrete...

Re: help me quiet this noisy monster
I also need some more storage, and some of my hard drives are fairly old, so I'd like to replace them all with a raid array. So, I want to replace the CPU fan and graphics card fan, and buy some quiet hard drives, maybe a raid enclosure. I want everything to be very quiet. What should I buy? it see...

Re: Best way to silence WD whine?
I have a couple of Western Digital drives in my system and they whine like a monster mosquito these days! What's the most effective way of silencing the whine (don't care about seek noise)? Would something like a silentmaxx HDD enclosure be of any use for this high pitched constant whine ? the most...

i'd RMA it and get another PSU (not necessarily meaning antec, either). power supplies are made with super toxic materials, and if it's smelling enough to make you dizzy, it could be defective. it might go away and it might not, but meanwhile you could be getting overloaded with toxins. don't mess a...

Coldflame, hdd suspension is actually quite easy in a 3700AMB. Just take out the hdd cage, turn it on its side and suspend it. Put the drives in the middle, use the outermost grommets to suspend. I'll post a link to what I did. http://www.burcakbaskan.com/PC/Thor/HDDSuspensionoverview.jpg http://ww...

problem solved! (or fixed, at least. :P) it'd the oddest freaking thing. i didn't notice before, but the M1 on my heatsink has a 3 wire. so i tried it again in the controller, and it works. weird. i don't know why i thought that one didn't work, but i specifically remember deciding to plug it into t...

it's the aerogate 1 , btw, not the II (just to clarify). i bought it because the knobs have a low profile for fitting behind doors if i ever needed to, and the leds can be turned off. i might take a closer look at it before i ditch it -- maybe it can be modded, or maybe if the fans are directly atta...

The issue seems to be more one of an oddity with the controller than with the fan. My only guess is that the Aerogate must be using the RPM signal in a feedback loop to control the speed. If that's the case no two wire fan will work. Most controllers just adjust the voltage or PWM across a set scal...

panaflos and fan controller
is it possible to get panaflos to work with a standard fan controller? i bought a coolermaster aerogate, and my panaflos don't work with it. apparently the fan needs a sensor wire, because i hooked up some other fans with 3 leads to test, and they work fine (i'd use those, but they're louder at low ...

The second thing I was going to do was replace the Sunon, maybe a Y.S. Tech, Papst, or Panaflow? i have an 80mm ys tech adjustable that at low setting is slightly louder than a panaflo M. it's just so hard to beat the panaflos. maybe try the japanaflo at jab-tech.com. the noise isolaters will be be...

Okay...silly question, but if you encode a cd with flac under Linux, and then play the flacs and then you start moving windows around do you hear a very minute pause every once in a while? That's one of the problems that I think a new video card will solve. hmm, no pauses here. i usually use lame, ...

looks pretty good. i put rubber washers between my case fan and case (coolermaster) and it seemed to help. how warm are your hard drives? maybe you don't even need the front fans, or only need 1. for me, hard drives always seem to be the biggest source of annoyance. i'm upgrading my maxtor to seagat...

i'd go with the matrox. their 2D is the best. i have a g450 dvi and it was a snap to set up in linux (definitely easier than my radeon, at least ).

i think i have a better idea of the HD setup now, thanks. i might eventually get one of those enclosures because the HD noise that bothers me the most is that high-pitched oscillating sine-wavey whining sound. i also had an idea to find some screws that are the same size as hard drive screws, but wh...

nice! i have that same case, and while it is the best cooling case i have ever seen, the hard drive noise is awful. hard mounting is the worst design possible, and to make matters worse, the hd rack is too tight to fit any rubber grommets in there or silicone silencing material. i've been trying for...
